Congratulations to Shawna Kenney!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: straight-shooting
Review: Kenney's a straight-shooter with a sharp pen and tongue. Her voice is unique and effortless. The story is outrageous and wonderfully simple at the same time. I hope to read more by this author.

Summary: School Days and Boogie Nights
Review: Like a superhero of the underground, Shawna Kenney exchanges her school outfit for a leather skirt; her pencils for a whip. Hey, when you have to get yourself through school why not do it with pizzaz. That's exactly what Shawna does here. From one misadventure to the next she puts herself in the company of people that could be straight out of "Pulp Fiction." No Geisha would survive this memoir that I hope will make it's way on to the big screen someday!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Moll Flanders Takes Control
Review: More Moll Flanders than SM expose, this memoir is sexy and funny not because of the subject but because of Kenney's talents as a writer. Like any good memoir we learn what makes the author tick and in this one we also learn what's at the other end of one or two of those adult services ads which have become so common. Kenney is candid in a way that no doubt she could not have been while wielding the whip.

Summary: HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Review: Placing myself into the class of " Curious Culture Vultures," which Pleasant Gehman mentions in her above review, Shawna Kenney's I WAS A TEENAGE DOMINATRIX serves as awesome prey for my voracious appetite. Kenney's well written, sure-footed anecdotes make it effortless to suspend one's thought - so much at times you may feel like a fly on a dungeon wall. Veracity, wit and detail equate to a terrific success!

Summary: College Coed takes up a paddle!!
Review: Shawna Kenney is no ordinary teenager or coed. She had a goal to get through college her way and the tenacity to do it. As amusing and even shocking as this memoir was at times you always new this was a means to an end, paying for college.

She really just stumbled on to being a dominatrix and just happend to be good at it. Shawna takes you from her childhood poverty and mindset to an adventure on her own and the discovery of her true womanly power, self respect and fearless confidence.

She writes this memoir in a very relaxed personal way. You know what she enjoys and what she does not and never does she hide behind political correctness or self importance. She just tells it like it was the good, bad, ugly, and gross.

She talks about her clients, acts of her job, the scene of professional dominatrix, and the learning lessons she acquired. The book really is a self-discovery and has some real moments of poignancy were she discovers the emotional consequences of her college job. Albeit an unusall memoir it was definitly filled with funny stories and insight. Definitly worth the read.

Summary: HUMOROUS AND FULL OF AGGRESSIVE VITALITY
Review: The beauty about IWATD is that it's not about BDSM but a genuine, graceful, moving and collective memoir about a young woman's coming of age experience set forth to a modern "off-beat". For all you BDSM curious people out there, this is NOT a HOW-TO book, which would explain the absence of the psychological and/or erotic factors underlying BDSM. Hooray to the author for an ambitious first novel full of aggressive vitality and humor.

Summary: A FRESH voice, thank the GODDESS!
Review: The raw reality of this book and Kenney's ability to relay her unusual college experiences made me laugh, cry and cringe for hours. No typical "gen-exer," Ms. Kenney has a sleeper hit on her hands here. (I attended a 'reading' of hers recently and it was well worth the time!) The world will be hearing more from this young talent, I'm sure.

Summary: REALITY, kid
Review: The reality of Ms. Kenney's words and situtaions made me laugh, cry and scream. Now THAT's quality writing. The world will be hearing more from this young talent, I'm sure. (I HOPE!)

Summary: Funny and Real
Review: This book reveals the feeling of the dominatrix as a person. What she was thinking, feeling and reason for doing what she did. The thoughts that go through her head when dealing with certain clients and situations is funny and you can relate to the thoughts and feelings. The stories are good! You want to hear about them all.
