Rating: Summary: can i have your job? Review: even though i've read a bunch of her columns in publications like the village voice and on our backs, to have everything organized between the covers in one volume is a treat! the chapters range in tone from silly to academic, from personal to political. read just one, and you'll have a good story. read them all, and you'll have a great sense of the person behind the pen. and thankfully, its first-run is in paperback, making it both affordable and lightweight!
Rating: Summary: really intimate look at the life of a rising star. Review: I picked up this book thanks to the advice of a friend(as if the cover wasn't enough). I was amazed at how well she articulates herself and her "adventures." I have to admit I fell in love with her writing style first, and then her second! She really bares all in this book - and it's all true she says! I'll be lucky if I manage to have half of her adventures in my entire life! It is a quick read, clearly separeted by subject/genre. Great evening material and definately inspiring. Also a fun book to read with a friend becuase it will surely inspire lots of dialogue/curiosity...and maybe even more. Best. T. G.
Rating: Summary: How could you not love it? Review: I thought this book was great. I also thought that this book was organized and written in a smart and thoughtful way. I feel that her writing style was both smooth and captivating. I think the tone of the author changed from adventure to adventure or topic to topic, which also made it feel more complete. There are more intellectual topics, there are funny topics, and there are sexy topics - all covered in an easy to read and engaging manner. I seriously think that this is the type of writing that the new millenium needs. To describe this book in any shorter terms would be selling it too short. Feel free to email me personally if you want more advice!
Rating: Summary: good. Review: i truly enjoyed every page i turned in this book. the words were crafted like magic butter. complete. inspiring. sexy. smart. i only wish i could have asked for more!
Rating: Summary: so young, so tan, so hot! Review: That is how this book made me feel! I love the stories, they are like an irresistable candy. Really fun, really smart, really sexy and never expected! The author has a way with words that can always make me smile. A definate must the the queer savy reader.
Rating: Summary: Overrated Review: The author's writing style makes SATC seem deep. Perky to the point of being unbearable, avoid.
Rating: Summary: high recommendations Review: this book take my highest recommendations. fun & smart stories, all neatly organized and packaged between the covers... i liked this book a lot. come with an open mind, and leave thinking you just got off the phone with a totally smart, hot, fun, adventurous, and sexually liberated inspirational superstar! but i don't want to set the bar too high, so you should read it yourself and judge.
Rating: Summary: Quick read Review: This book went by super fast. It was a complete joy and a little bit edgy to read through all the stories knowing they were all TRUE! I loved coming home knowing i could sit down at any moment and read a smart, witty, sexy, and political story about sex. I only wished it could of been longer, it seems that 248 pages of this type of stuff always is too short. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Excellent collection of steamy essays Review: This is a great read, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. It packs 69 smart & sexy essays all in one book. The book is a compilation of several of the author's columns in the Village Voice as well as some new original pieces written just for this book. All in all it takes you on a groovy ride in and around Taormino's adventures in the world of sex, kink, and queerness. I like to pick the book up, re-read my old favorites and then flip on to some new ones. The highlights of this compilation are: 1 - they are each only 2-3 pages, making them quick and easy to read for the fan on the go. 2 - the book is neatly organized and grouped by theme. Again handy for the fan on the run as you can quikly find something to quench your particular thirst. 3 - and finally, I love the authors actual writing style. They are upbeat, moving, and fun. Just like I'd like to imagine my sex life! Can't recommend Tristan Taormino's TRUE LUST enough... Pick one up today and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
Rating: Summary: "My name is Tristan with a T". Review: What's it like to be Tristan Taormino? Read `True Lust' and you'll have a better perspective of who she is and what it's like to be a Perky Sex Diva for an entire generation. All the essays and commentary are relatively short but each one tells a story of sexual growth and exploration. Topics range from getting a lap dance to group sex. She even talks about transgender and what it's like to be a bisexual woman.
Yes, the book is provocative but encompasses an honesty that communicates the importance of exploring ones own sexual identity as caring adults and yes acting responsibly. With in `True Lust' you'll laugh, you'll be aroused, and also find yourself mindful of an alternative culture of women and men. Written very well I enjoyed the upbeat and thoughtful views depicted in this book.
Of course, this isn't a book for everyone. You do need to possess a little curiosity, a little open mindedness to accept that there are others in the world who like things that are extremely spicy in bed, out of bed, and lifesyle in general.
This book certainly does hold many adventures in sex, porn, and possibly perversion.
