Rating: Summary: Fabulous!! Review: Absolutely hilarious, Couldn't put it down--had to read it cover to cover. Using humor, Jenny Lee touches the heart and soul of all the frustrations and joys of relationships. From dinner duty to managing finances, and surviving life's other daily battles and triumphs, Jenny poignantly captures the thoughts of today's woman. A definite must for the bride-to-be, newlywed, or simply anyone who believes in love.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for new couples! Review: After reading luke-warm reviews of it, I thought this book was the kind you have to read a few pages of in the bookstore before deciding to buy. That couldn't have been further from the truth! I first heard about it in mid-January and my husband (of eight months - I completely relate) bought it for me for Valentine's Day, unprompted! We read it together and rolled on the ground laughing. I think it's a funny read for any couple. Ms. Lee's insightful comments are right on target.
Rating: Summary: If you're brain-dead, shallow, or from LA, you'll love it! Review: After reading the first couple of chapters, I'm just glad I didn't waste any money on this trite, ill-conceived product of a society filled with suckers who make it possible for stores that sell $400 uncomfortable, but oh-so-cute, shoes to exist. If you feel inferior carrying around a Coach bag instead of Prada, then this is the perfect book for you. I can't blame Ms. Lee for her attempt - she can only write shallow, meaningless fluff based on her limited experience living with her rich sorority girl mentality.
Rating: Summary: Very Funny Read Review: At first glance it seemed that Ms. Lee's book might have been an advice book or 'how to' guide on married life, but after having read the book, it turns out that it is really a collection of entertaining essays/musings about the first year(s) of marriage. I found the book to be very funny and relatable, due in large part to its casual style, which made it feel as if I were having a conversation, rather than reading. I also found that I didn't need to be recently married to understand the humor (I was somewhat apprehensive about this before buying the book), I think that this book would appeal to anyone who has ever had a somewhat serious relationship at any point in their lives. My boyfriend will attest to that, he thought that the humor was dead-on. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys smart, wry, insightful humor and for those who want to laugh a little (and in some parts a lot!) Enjoy.
Rating: Summary: I completely understand!!! Review: Being brand new in the marriage world I have had no idea what's going on. I saw this book and thought the title was interesting so I picked it up. I laughed out loud so much my husband thought I was going nuts. I can completely understand everything Jenny discusses. I can especially relate to "dating" other couples and wondering if they liked you as much as you like them. Will they call? Which couple is the 'guy' and which couple is the 'girl'? And her husband driving around for like 2 hours for a closer parking spot! I live in Arizona where parking is abundant, yet my husband insists on circling around until we find the "perfect" spot. Usually, I can do what needed to be done and home before he even parks! This book is clever, smart and totally relatable. I would suggest giving this to a bride-to-be so they can at least get a little glimpse into life after the dress - even if they don't take it to heart until six or seven months after they've been married and wonder what they were thinking.
Rating: Summary: Loved It!! Review: Excellent book - perfect to ease the nerves of a soon-to-be bride and definitely comforts the newly wed who thinks she is all alone!
Rating: Summary: GREAT READ! Review: I actually bought this book only a few days ago and finished quickly b/c I couldn't put down. So witty and charming and honest. I'm currently engaged and loved her take on married life and it's trials and tribulations. Highly recommend!
Rating: Summary: Train Wreck of a Book Review: I couldn't stop reading this book because it was so bad and I couldn't imagine it getting worse - and it did!! As a newlywed (and a New Yorker) myself, this book immediately caught my eye in the bookstore, but I was painfully bothered by the trite and superficial "story" that the author told. Who is Jenny Lee anyway and why does she think we want to hear what she has to say? I thought her anecdotal stories were irrelevant (if even true) and her insight was insulting. She portrayed herself as an immature (unemployed) whiner who happened to snag a hunky doctor for a husband. I mean really who reduces their happiness to proximity to Bergdorf Goodman??
Rating: Summary: very funny... even for those with a brain Review: I don't usually bother to write reviews, but I thought this needed one. At first, I read the enraged reviews and didn't buy the book. I needed something light to read on the way to Europe, so I picked it up (sometimes people agree, sometimes they dont). No regrets folks ('cept that I waited so long to get the book). It's fun, it's witty, it's sarcastic, and she (Jenny Lee) makes no bones about being shallow. Incidentally, the book is infused with deeper emotion (look again), she just chooses to emphasize the humor. SO WHY IS EVERYONE SO UPSET?? Don't take yourself so seriously. Clear your mind, think of it as humour along the Dave Barry/Erma Bombeck lines, and relax. Remember, books can be a good help on life, but they do not substitute for it. If you got the book hoping for marriage tips but got none (some readers did, mind you), treat this like a book in whose opinion you do not always agree with, not a slap in the face, then buy something else more formal (Dr. Phil, perhaps?). Liking this book does not make people shallow (we already are, but we choose not to write about it). I suppose I'm as shallow as the next female, 30 yr old, corporate exec...ah well. Either you'll like it or you wont or something in between. I liked it.
Rating: Summary: enter the mind of the newly married woman... Review: i know this book is targeted to newlywed women or soon to be wed women. but i think it is a funny and insightful read for men as well. i am thinking a lot of women have similar experiences and expectations as the author and this book can help guys figure out what the heck is going on behind the mind of the married woman. it is funny and i have to laugh at the husband because thats probably me too.
