Summary: Rollins rocks!
Review: As a fan of the "audible" Rollins, I was very intrigued to see what the "written" Rollins was all about. This anthology of Rollins' work is just superb. The rawness, the humor, the darkness, the energy; all are hallmarks of Henry's style. If you've ever wanted to start to see what makes Henry tick, this is a great place to start. I can guarantee something will grab you and invade your soul.

Summary: Get in the Head of an Alien Man
Review: As I flew home today to Chicago, I found myself once again bound to Henry Rollins and his insight, humor and distrust for men, pigs, skinhead punkers and wannabes. Henry Rollins is a voice of reality that far too often gets ignored by pop culture. A role that he seems to enjoy. However, it would be misleading of me to say that Henry Rollins would want any pats on the back or adjulation. Just read, understand and think. Don't accept whatever is spoon fed to you. Make your own decisions, accept the consequences, get in the van and see where you end up. Thanks Henry. You made a long flight less painful. (I am bound by the rating system, but I feel that this book stands on its own. Ratings are for week minded people who need to be told what is good and bad in life. This view is my own and does not represent AMAZON.com.)

Summary: Can Anyone Stop the Animal Man?
Review: Enter the room in Rollins mind where the fires of his anger and hate roam free. Along with life experiences such as slug torture and the presence of cockroach gods...This is a book that you can not put down...not because you want to know what happens next...but because your afraid to...You don't want to know what might be waiting on the otherside of the door if you leave that room...you might find that Rollins was right and that we are not the rulers of the planet as we know it..or think we know it.

Summary: Bad Karma?
Review: He's just angry all the time and bitter and angry in a very West Coast jaded way. I personally prefer(red) my punks to burn their candle on both ends and still have a suspicion of the pump-the-iron gym freaks. Still, some passages from his travel diaries are quite interesting. I also liked his account of the famous LA race riots in 1993. Re his pet shop stories I hope it's not autobiographical: imagine what horrible karma if one'd have to "exterminate" all those rabbits, rats and mice? Ouch. Henry Rollins' poetry is so-so even in comparison to other so-so so-called rock poets. Still, I cannot say I altogether dislike his writings (sort of what most of us do when keeping our personal journals): it's almost like spying on somebody's personal life. Overall he's a strong performer and I like the fact that he can't stand drunks! And pigs. Even though he only killed rabbits, rats and mice.

Summary: Direct and from the gut...Rollins is right on the money,,,,,
Review: Henry has given us another superb read...but what do you expect from a guy that pours his heart and soul into it every single time...!

Summary: Rollins Is The Man
Review: Henry Rollins' writing is limited. He doesn't have the diplomacy, the syntax, or the vocabulary of other reknowned American writers like Hawthorne, Twain, or even Ginsberg, but he makes up for it with his brutal sense of honesty, and a very plausible sense of reality. Most of his works represent the struggle of every day life, finding yourself, and dealing with the harshness of people he comes across. The Portable Henry Rollins is a great introduction to his writing style, and only makes me want to dive in deeper into his works, and his mind.

Summary: The Dark Unspoken Truth
Review: I am new to Henry's writing. I have listened to his music for some time. I saw this book at the library and thought I would give it a try. It was great. The dark thoughts of death, life, the struggles of dating, the need to be alone, yet wanting others is all truth. It may only be imagination, but it is reality for many. I've never thought much of poetry, but now I read this book over and over. Each time seeing something new. I once had a bumper sticker that said "People suck." I wonder now if Henry Rollins was behind the idea. I've read it cover to cover, again and again and I just purchased two more books. Finally, someone who isn't afraid to speak the truth and express what they feel.
