Summary: awesome!
Review: one of the best buffy books ever!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Only for the DIE-HARD Buffy fan....
Review: Personally, I would recommend this book only for the most die-hard of Buffy fans OR for those particularly interested in the monsters featured in Buffy.

I found the book to be almost TOO full of information and being a very big Buffy fan, I'm surprised to hear myself say that but I found the book too detailed for my personal liking as it was focused COMPLETELY on the monsters featured in the TV show.

Having said this, if you ARE especially interested or entertained by all the different varieties of Buffy monsters or villains, this is definitely the book for you. It details the history or every Buffy monster, no matter how minor and it includes pictures as well as descriptions of the monster/villain and how it featured in whatever episode.

The Monster Book is just as big as the Watcher Guides only it is CRAMMED full of info on the monsters featured in the TV show and almost nothing else. I would only recommend this book for those fans who want to know absolutely everything about one aspect of the show; Monsters.

Summary: Very Cool; Much More Than Just Another TV Tie-In
Review: The best-written hour-long television series going, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", has certainly gotten a worthy companion in "The Monster Book." It's really two books in one. The authors map out every beast and nasty to appear on the show (the "Buffy" universe is huge and fascinating; it's spawned by the amazingly fertile creative mind of series executive producer Joss Whedon.) "The Monster Book" is also a wide-ranging, surprisingly generous, intelligent survey of the horror genre that bears comparison with Stephen King's masterful "Danse Macabre." You will find dozens of interesting books and movies to track down. If I had something like this as a horror-fan 16-year old, I would have gone nuts with glee. As a (hopefully) more sober grown-up, I'm still pretty damn impressed.

Summary: Monstrous Fun
Review: The Monster Book is a delightful reference guide filled with pictures and information. There are chapters on demons, vampires, magic users, primals, ghosts, the walking dead, bogy men, invisible people, Faith, and, perhaps the most frightening of all, the human monster. Segments from the scripts are used to illustrate the monster's powers and effect on the slayer and her friends. In addition to detailing every creature that has crawled across the television screen in the first four seasons of Buffy. It contains research into the orgins and folklore of monsters. This is a must for all Buffy fans and monster lovers everywhere.

Summary: Here Be Monsters!!!
Review: The television series 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' has seen nearly every type of monster you will ever find. This book details all the leading ones seen up to the end of series 4 of the program. Divided into appropriate monster sections - Demons, Vampires, Magic Users, Primals, Ghosts, The Walking Dead, Bogeymen, Invisible People, and Faith and The Human Monster, it details every character with who they are, when they appeared, where they are now, unique attributes, etc.

This is just not a book based on Buffy though, alongside the Buffy Monster descriptions are a incredibly well researched history of each type of monster alongside nearly every mention of them within movies, comics and literature. As a bonus also, there are 16 colour pages with publicity shots, make up shots and scenes from the series on them.

Overall, this book is not only a guide to Monsters in the Buffyverse, but all mainstream monsters in general. RECOMMENDED not only to Buffy fans, but fans of all things monstery as well

Summary: Monsters, ahoy!
Review: This book is an interesting window into the Buffyverse, and naturally I had to have it as part of my nascent Buffy collection. My only quibble is that, aside from the entertaining bits taken from the show itself, the pocket history on the demons and so forth seems a little pedantic and less well-written than one might expect.

Summary: A must have!
Review: This book is essential for any hard-core fan! Far from being just an encyclopedia of monsters, this book gives insite into who these creatures are and where they come from. Show characters like Oz and Willow have their own special sections devoted to their powers (werewolf and witch respectively). Great resource for webmasters and fanfic authors.

Summary: A must-have!!!
Review: This is absolutely the best book on the subject of monsters, demons, etc that I have seen! While it does focus a good deal of well-written attention on those monsters particular to the Buffyverse, it doesn't stop there. You won't find a more detailed description of the origins of many monster legends and their emobdiement on the silver (and small!) screen and in comics as well. The color photos from the show also add a lot to the book which reads easily despite a more scholarly bend than you might expect.

Summary: Excellent tie-in book to Buffy
Review: Though obviously targeted for fans of the TV series, readers who enjoy mythology will surprisingly love THE MONSTER BOOK. Obviously, the book includes an in depth look at what has occurred on the TV series as these books tend to do. However, the trio of authors also explores links to myths, other literature and movies, and culture, especially that of the supernatural creatures visiting Sunnydale obsessed with slaying the slayer.

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: THE MONSTER BOOK is one of the best of the media tie-in books written because it delves deep into the underlying philosophy of the show. The standard passages are all included to the joy of Buffy buffs, but there is more to the legend as written by Mr. Golden, Mr. Bisette and Mr. Sniegoski. Thus, THE MONSTER BOOK has wider appeal.
