Summary: Very informative, but on occasion dense
Review: Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer know their monsters -- the buglike Bezoars, psychotic (and psychic) vampire Drusilla, Franken-clone Adam -- and here's a book that covers all of them in-depth.

First off, this book is quite good. The only problem is that occasionally (especially in the overarching pop-culture and historical look at each category) the included material can get overwhelming -- it would be impossible to include every film, book, comic book or TV show about vampires, but the authors certainly try! As a result, these sections are best taken a bite at a time. The rest of the book (a look at Buffy's monsters) is informative and much more readable in one fell swoop.

All in all, a good choice for any Buffy fan.

Summary: Okay first draft
Review: First off, I do like the sections talking about the monsters of Buffy. What needs work are the sections that trace the history of the various creatures in our culture. The treatment just skims the surface. It is a great source for lists of books/movies/comics on the topic, but there is no depth. In the section on witches, there was only one or two paragraphs on the Inquisition. Several paragraphs just a mention of a title or two without stating the significance of that title to the various genres. Also, it hops around too much: movie, comic book, comic book, play; or 1980, 1910, then 1960. There is no clear thread to justify the jumping about.
Again, I'll say a great listing. There are several titles I now have that I'll keep an eye out for, but reading through those sections was boring.

Summary: Another first rate companion volume to the Buffy Series
Review: For those of us who consider Buffy the Vampire Slayer to be one of if not the best televison show on today, it is not surprising that the "official companion" volumes to this series are as first rate as the show. Not as vital to your collection as the Watcher's Guides, this is still a must have book. It is nice to take seriously a show that takes itself and its mythology seriously.

Summary: Surprisingly informative
Review: I got this book on a lark, being a big fan of the TV series. I was surprised at how well-researched it was, not just by the cataloguing of the monsters on Buffy but also on the history of storytelling that has built up these monsters in the collective imagination. For a die-hard Buffy fan, there's not much to be learned about the plots of the different episodes or the characterization of certain monsters, but this book wisely offers more. There are filmatic and literary histories chronicling the appearances of types of monsters. There is some insight into ancient legends and fears that supply inspiration to the creation of the monsters. And to tie it in neatly, there are interviews with the writers of the show to demonstrate how this rich history informs the show. As a big fan of horror movies, I wasn't too surprised to find out which movies were considered important to the writers, but the depth of the horror genre in literature inspired me and made me consider reading some of the books mentioned. This book would be especially helpful to someone who has just been introduced to horror through Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Summary: Monsters, Monsters, Monsters
Review: I have watched the show since it aried 4 seasons ago. When i bought this book, I thought it would be neat to look at all the monsters, demons, and so on that have passed through the show. This book however is SO MUCH MORE than that, it gives you all kinds of info on the show and where the creater got his ideas. I would suggest this book to any one who likes the show.

Summary: Excellent Book for the die hard Buffy fans!
Review: I purchased this book for my 2 sons ...and they can't stop looking at it! Not only do they get to look at the monsters that have made a appearance on the show they get to read a little bit about them. Also the wardrobe and makeup descriptions were quite interesting for even me. I would recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the show over the years or for those who are just getting into it through the re-runs on FX. :)

Summary: A must-have for all Buffy fans!
Review: I recently got this book and right after I started, I was unable to put it down! It's a great reference book and a good companion to the Watcher's Guides. It also has virtually every "monster" (good or bad) in this book that has come into Sunnydale since day one to the end of Season 4. I must say that this is definitely a must-have for any and all Buffy fans

Summary: Monster of a Reference
Review: I'm a die-hard, crazed Buffy fan. I loved this book. It is unbelievably detailed, and recalls every demon, no matter how short-lived. I enjoyed reading this book very much. But even more than that, I use it as a reference when I'm trying to associate episodes, or watching re-runs. A must-have for fans.
