Summary: Diva101
Review: For those of you who've always wondered what made some female performers stars, and others divas, there's no better way to learn than to read the latest book by James Robert Parish, "Hollywood Divas." In it, you'll learn that often, success leads to excess, whether in matters of conspicuous consumption, outrageous public behavior, or in Hollywood's favorite game, musical beds. A wittily wicked book by a veteran
show business chronicler, it is definitely for those with enquiring minds who want to know.

Summary: This book dishes up the dish
Review: I saw this in my local bookstore & am picking up a few copies for my friends this holiday. It's a fun stocking stuffer jammed with salacious details about the actresses we love to hate. Of course the Divas are the MOST beautiful -- Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner, Jennifer Lopez, Sharon Stone, Louise Brooks -- and the most talented -- Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Shelley Winters, Greta Garbo, Faye Dunaway. Perfect for movie lovers and a lot of fun.

Summary: OSCAR WILDE WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS BOOK!
Review: I'm probably misquoting him, but Oscar Wilde said "It is the feet of clay that makes the gold of the idols precious." He would have loved this collection -- there isn't a diva here who wouldn't have elicited a happy "tsk tsk" from Oscar. If he were alive today, he would be contributing insider tidbits to the tabloids . . . and Jim Parish would be happily collecting them into books like this one.

Summary: Unveiling Hollywood Divas
Review: In his latest book, Hollywood Divas, James Robert Parish, has assembled glamorous women often considered to be demanding and self-centered. He writes mini-bios on each one; he unveils them with sensitivity and their star personalities fade. We see them in their private lives, often difficult and harsh. What they have in common is their ability to survive it all. As an avid movie-goer and a film buff, I recommend this book; it is a delight to read with a choice of quotes and photos that enchance the work. Parish is an excellent writer and his research and knowledge of films make his books invaluable resources.

Summary: Good and Fabulous -- no "Bad" here
Review: James Robert Parish, the author of The RKO Gals and The Fox Girls, has now written a witty and remarkably informative new book about 70 major "Divas" of the entertainment world. The most surprising thing about this book is that it contains not only current idols like Madonna and Jennifer Lopez, and perennial idols like Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland, but also some rather obscure (in terms of early 21sts century) idols, including Kay Francis, Mae Murray, and Greer Garson. Yes, this book covers the whole gamut, from Theda Bara to Britney Spears. The quotes are fantastic, the photos are great, and the information is fabulous. Highly recommended.

Summary: Diva-licious!
Review: Lacking the time to read the book cover to cover, I kept it on my coffee table so I could dip into it from time to time when I had a few spare moments. Well, that was the plan anyway. The first time I "dipped in" I was hooked, and read more than half the book in one sitting. Whether you're interested in the classic stars of yesteryear of today's hottest commodities like J. Lo, Julia Roberts, and Meg Ryan, you'll find enough info to satiate your curiosity about their careers, antics, and love lives. The book is filled with facts--headline-making news and little known details that will keep you turning pages. Highly recommended.

Summary: Dive into the Divas
Review: Marvelous, darling. That's not a diva talking, but this reviewer giving his assessment of Hollywood Diva's: The Good, the Bad and the Fabulous, the latest from the industrious James Robert Parish. We learn that Tallulah once slept with the bride and the groom, Whitney's thoughts on being a star, and Lucille's problems with Desi, among many things. There's also fascinating material on Sharon, Jennifer, Clara and many more of the ladies we love to love and love to ridicule. As usual, Parish has an uncanny knack for selecting just the right information and the right amount of information to keep the reader enthralled. His brief bios are packed with fascinating and telling material. I was struck by the number of divas that escaped a miserable upbringing by heading to Hollywood. Once there, they achieved fame and glory, but often at a steep price. Did they bring on their disasters themselves? In many cases, yes, but we adore them anyway. Even casual followers of the world of film will find it hard to put down this book. You will want to read about all these women, not just the really big stars. The stories resonate with all of us, whether we are divas, whether we adore divas, or whether we want nothing to do with divas.
