Rating: Summary: Unnecessary prattle Review: I must agree that while Jim's life with Pamela deserves as much literary respect as his career or life with Patricia Kennealy, this book falls woefully short of that mark. Its slim bulk is in proportion to how over-priced it is, and its lumbering writing style is beyond tedious. Nice color photos, though. I am still waiting for the book that puts both Pamela and Patricia in equal standing with him - now *there's* a story!
Rating: Summary: Honest, objective book Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book since it really is the only work out there that details the lives of Jim and Pamela
Rating: Summary: Been there done that .... Review: The author's 6 years of research seem to have been spent picking and choosing her way through : "No One Here Gets Out Alive ", "Break on Through" & "The Lizard King" (the latter 2 are very interesting & informative). The only 'new' information seems to be that Jim was a bed-wetter, Pamela never graduated from high school, oh and Ms. Butler has determined ( after talking to a medical professional - who NEVER saw Jim) that he didn't die of a Heroin o.d. - no, no, no, he died from an Asthmatic condition, which he had carefully hidden from his Mother, Father, Grandparents, Sister, Brother, Friends, Girlfriends, Consort , bandmates and his own personal Physician! It doesn't pass the laugh test. If this is the 'last word' on the subject, I'm afraid Jim and Pam have been paid a terrible disservice. Anyone interested in Jim Morrison's relationships would do better with "Living and Dying with Jim Morrison" and "Strange Days".
Rating: Summary: JIM AND PAM AS ROMEO AND JULIET? HMMM! Review: This book is phantasticly written. For some odd reason, rollercoaster relationship between Jim and Pam has always been ignored. This wonderful book finally finally finally exposes their true yet rocky love. Butler, at last, puts Pam as one of Jim's main influences. Never before has Pam even been looked upon as anything other than "Jim's Girlfriend". But this book proves she was much much more. She was more than an "ornament" even more than his "cosmic mate". Along with all of those she was a strong individual. It's a shame that their lives ended so soon...a shame for us anyhow.
Rating: Summary: A Refreshing Change Review: What a nice change from the usual "I was Jim's best friend" or "Jim loved me best" books we've been forced to endure in the past. Nice to finally hear a fresh and unbiased view of a complicated man and an incredible woman. Very well-written -- comprehensive, funny, touching, and fair, not to mention hard to put down! A nice job and a refreshing change from the same ol' same ol'. Well done!
Rating: Summary: JIM AND PAM: TRAGIC LOVE AT ITS BEST Review: Butler's book is phantastic. Pam, before this book, was casually mentioned with the casualness of a "groupie", but Bulter sheds light on this firey poignat and pugnatious gal. Jim and Pam truly belonged to each other. Never before has the yin-yang theory completely fit anything so well, much less love. This duo was a convoluted Romeo and Juliet. Pam was one of the driving forces behind Jim and his songs reflect her importance. Despite what some IRISH WITCH says about the book's authentisity, it is awesome.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Thanks for writing this! Review: I was so happy to hear that someone had FINALLY written a book about Jim and Pam and their amazing relationship. At least I always thought it must be an amazing relationship -- no one had ever really bothered to write about it until now. And I wasn't disappointed! I was thrilled to read stories I'd never seen anywhere else before, not to mention photos I'd never seen before! The Themis photos especially are GREAT! Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I ended up reading all night, and cried at the end. This is such an amazing love story, and it's about time someone told it -- and Patricia Butler has told it beautifully! Any true Morrison fan should be anxious to read this and won't be disappointed once they do. It's the best Morrison book I've read yet, and certainly made me feel like I not only knew Jim better than I ever did before, but that I knew Pamela for the first time. I'd like to thank the author for taking so many years to put this book together. It was obviously time well spent, and, as a Doors fan and a writer, I appreciate the effort, which hit the mark exactly. This is a beautiful book, well-written and honest. I would recommend it to anyone! Thanks!
Rating: Summary: It isn't Huxley, or Nietzsche, but it is phantastic. Review: Most books written about the Doors and Jim Morrison focus meerly and centerally on the Rock 'n Roll aspect of his life. However, in Butler's novel, one gets a true meaning and understanding of Jim through his romance with Pamela. Although a they shared a rocky relationship, the "cosmic mates" demonstrated true love in every aspect of the word. Their tragic tale is wonderfully told by Butler because never before has Pamela truly been recognized as a pivitol role in Jim Morrison's life. She has been meerly written off as a groupie or "Jim's girl". By reading this novel, one learns she was anything but. She was Jim. It was phasinating learning about her for a change and how her background corresponded chronologically with Jim's and then the cosmic moment they met. Pam was more than Jim's "muse", she was an individual whose life was ended tragically, like Jim's. This book is greatly different from others in the best ways possible. The photos let the readers in to perhaps some of the most intimate and REAL aspects of their romance. At the end, one does get the feeling that these two devilish angels are dancing and laughing someplace far far away still.
Rating: Summary: The book is the best, in other words it was awesome! Review: It tells alot about pamela and Jim! things you like to hear. I think it should be a best seller! The authors give good details of things and when you read the book it feels as of you are inside with the characters.
Rating: Summary: Supreme display of Jim and his "Cosmic Mate" Review: "Angels Dance and Angels Die" clearly recounts the rollercoaster days of Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson Morrison. A couple who endured many hardships but came out with a strong and undying love for one another! Even though Jim had many lovers Pam was there for him from begining to end. She was the one who he wrote his songs about and dedicated his book to. Patricia Butler has written this book with respect and dedication. To research for six years! Butler has given birth to a bestseller!
