Summary: Everything you need to know about the personality of a pug!
Review: I stayed up until 3:30 a.m. just so I could finish this book! It was as if I were reading about my own 2 pugs, Reno Devito and Rosie O'Doggell. I don't think I've ever laughed out loud at a book like I did at this one. This book now has me scanning the Internet, trying to locate other publications about pugs, when before I was content to just live with and love the pugs. I now know the truth about my own life: I, too, am owned by the pugs! Seriously, if you want to read a book that is well-written, highly entertaining, and also hits the nail on the head, so to speak, then you've got to read CLARA. It's absolutely the best thing I've read in a long time. I'm sending it on to other pug parents. It should be required reading for all pug owners/ownees.

Summary: Clara is the epitome of every Pug!
Review: Buying this book was one of the best purchases that I've made to date from Amazon! I have 2 Pugs, Sam is a fawn male and Lucy is a black female. Margo Kaufman might as well have been writing about my Lucy. Pugs are the most wonderful breed, and are often misunderstood. Margo put owning a Pug, or being owned by a Pug (which is usually the case) into perspective. This book was extremely enjoyable - I curled up on the bed with my Pugs and laughed at all of the similarities! If you own a Pug or are considering it, read this book - it's a Must!

Summary: A great read for ALL of us "OWNED" by our pets
Review: I am not a pug owner (YET)! I have a Basset - who reminds me so much of Clara. This book kept me laughing all the way thru it! I understood the frustration of their international adoption - as my sister-in-law recently went thru a similar process. This book is a MUST for any pet-lover out there! From Margo's "bat-eared daffodil" to my "long eared princess" I really felt I could relate to the Kaufman family. Now, I want a pug.

Summary: 5 stars for the Clara part; 2 stars for the Russian adoption
Review: I read this book then learned that Kaufman had died. It was so sad, she mentioned her cancer in the book but the way she lived her life and even went out and adopted a son from the Russia leads me to think she was fully recovered. I re-read the book immediately thinking: this is the work of a woman who is going to die in two years. The story of Clara is charming without being the least bit trite. As for the story of her son's adoption, which is about 1/3 of the book, well, the only thing more boring than enduring red-tape is reading about it. Kaufman is an enjoyable writer but even she can't mine gold from such dross. After reading this book I really adore Clara, and hope she is well.

Summary: I haven't laughed so hard in years!
Review: I have been telling everyone I meet about this book. It is SO funny. Okay, I am a pug owner and I did read parts outloud to Abernathy, but that shouldn't stop any dog lover from roaring over Clara's antics. It is true that as soon as a pug comes into the picture, people forget about you and concentrate on the dog. And Clara takes full advantage of her charms, at Saks, at the airport, at hotels. This book also sets up Clara's relationship with the Kaufmann's adopted child and maybe will lead to further adventures? What a lucky child to grow up with pugs!

Summary: Very sweet and funy
Review: This book was really lovely. The author, who I just found out passed away, has a great sense of humor. Whether writing about her completely hammy pug or her own more serious health and life issues, she has a breezy style and great, smart attitude. I was sorry to hear she has since died.

Summary: Pug-lovers Unite!
Review: As I have both owned pugs and done a foreign adoption, I kept thinking as I read this book that it was *written* for me! Her writing about Clara's World is so insightful, it's as if Clara herself dictated it. The world will miss Ms. Kaufman's wry and charming wit.

Summary: Great book for puggie owners!
Review: I can't believe no one has reviewed this book yet!
I'm about 3/4 through the book and find myself constantly laughing at the various incidents discussed in the book. Nothing like reading about pugs being demanding while mine is trying to attack my book!

It's a must read for any pug owner, great writing, great stories.

Summary: Clara rules!
Review: If you only ever read one book about dogs in your life, this has to be it. Full of fun, laughter and pug slobber, it is hysterically funny and a great insight into pug ownership. So sad that Margo is no longer alive to enjoy her new son and pugs.
Even if you dont like pugs, you'll love this!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Incredibly humorous!
Review: Who'd ever imagine that a story about the life of a pug could actually be quite entertaining and humorous to read?! Certainly Ms. Kaufman has written an extremely comical book about the life of Clara, her beloved pug, which has left my stomach muscles sore from laughing so hard.

Kaufman had the flair and natural talent for writing. No doubt it was one of her greatest gifts. If you want to read a well-written book and get a good laugh, read this book.
