Rating: Summary: Summer Flame heats up the world of Krynn Review: Unlikely allies, facing fierce adversaries, Krynn heating up to the point of setting the world aflame, the gods departing! This is all too much! A sad end to a great age that left me somewhat heart broken. I think Weis, et. al. are heading in the wrong direction, although true to form Weis, et. al. are really true to form in their storytelling, imaginative, and creative. I rated this a three since the stories end left me shattered, and destoyed the very reason I read this series.
Rating: Summary: The King is dead - not long live the King Review: This is the book that really began Dragonlance's downfall... It's as if the authors or whoever decided to make the book wanted to revitalize Dragonlance, and instead ended up ruining most of what made Dragonlance fun. Still, I'd have liked to give it 2.5 stars, but since I couldn't, I erred on the side of condamnation since the book was such a disappointment. After DoSF came the horrible Fifth Age. *shudder* Well, I've moved to Forgotten Realms, so Wizards is still getting my money.Despite the failings of the story, Weis and Hickman were up to their usual standards of writing, meaning DoSF was still more enjoyable than nearly all the Dragonlance spinoffs. Speaking of the spinoffs, there was one phrase in the book said by Astinus, "but this is another tale" when speaking of Crysania or something similar. If that wasn't a hook for a spinoff, I don't know what was. Sure enough, in time Tears of the Night Sky was published.
Rating: Summary: Nice ending Review: For Weis to end her 4th age with this book was a great idea. Althought it a very sad book and many may choose to end leave the dragonlance world after reading it...it ended the 4th age very well. I hope everyone who reads this book is as satisfied with it as i was and I hope that after reading this review, you will want to pick up this terrific book.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This book was like a black hole, it just pulled u right into its story. It was one of those books that just kept u reading and reading... What was really great about this book though was that the 2nd generation main characters were not simply copies of their parents. They had their own unique qualities and intrigues. I also loved the fact that although the author lengthened the story it did not seem to drag on. The reason that i gave this book only four stars was that i had a problem with the ending, well i didn't dislike it but i thought that the whole Father of Nothing and All battle should have had some more stuff leading up to it. Ya there was that little bit in the beginning of the book, and some references made about this imidant attack by choas, but i don't think it was quite enough. Then all of a sudden when they were standing in this prison and BANG chaos was attacking. I mean what was chaos up to all this time, huh? But all in all, it was a fantastic read that is sure not to be missed. I mean every book has its faults, and it sure as hell doesn't stop me from placing this book as one of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: A great tale of loyalt, honor and love in times of despair. Review: Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman tell the story of 4 companions battling against impossible odds. A mage named Palin and a lost girl named Usha find love through the darkness of evil with the help of a warrior named Steel, who is trying to gain control of his soul. Weis and Hickman materialize the world through amazing description and imagination. I like how Weis and Hickman tells the story with great detail. As we get pulled into the fantasizing world of Krynn, we find ourselves as if "watching" the story as it happens.
Rating: Summary: Wow this is a really good book mostly Review: I thought this book was great, I actually cried, Lol. It's a cool story and Raistlin and some others make it great. Unfortunately Usha is a poor character, talk about annoying. Otherwise very good.
Rating: Summary: good, but kinda annoying... Review: let me say before i start, that this was a great book, and if you are a dragonlance fan you HAVE to read it. It pulls you so into the plot that you find urself laughing, crying, and screaming at the pages (when i read it consisted mostly of screaming but...). now for my review. IF U HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK BE CAUTIONED. First of all, i was happy with the change in Krynn. Weis and hickman made the situation belivable, in that the enemmy is not centered on 'we r the bad guys and we know it.' Instead they had a cause to fight for, and belived that it was the right thing to do. In my oppinion this makes the story much more intresting. But sadly, one of the things that made this irritating was that i couldnt stand some of the charicters, and to me thats all that matters. no good charicters, its not a good book. But weis and hickman make up for that by making a few wonderful charicters. the bad side is that they kill them. In this book i found myself disliking palin (but just in this one, in the others he's a little better)and hating usha. Palin's charicter lacks complexity. You get a small idea of what he could be like if he got a whole lot more inteligent, and had some experiance, but i hardly noticed this because of his childish behavior. I had thought that he would be more like raistlin, not in the evil way, but in the wise byond ur years way. Sadly i was greatly dissapointed. Palin is a kid, and it shows, and while not a bad thing, it just bugged me. The next charicter i could hardly stand, usha. to make a long story short.. she is just ignorant of everything! Now steel on the other hand, was great. At first i wasn't very intrested in him. Just another war crazy guy, right? Well i was wrong. His inner struggle was very intresting, to say the least, and weis and hickman disscribed it in such a way that made look at it from his angel. it was soo good! now one more thing before i go, dont get attached to any charicter, past or present, they will probably die. (that was the one thing that really bugged me....). Other thatn thoses detalis this is a great book that you have to read
Rating: Summary: A Good Story, but... Review: Of all the Dragon Lance stories by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman that I've read, I would rate this book the lowest. Although it is still enjoyable, I felt that Palin Majere would have had more maturity and strength than he shows in this story. Perhaps Palin would have followed Raistlin's voice despite the Test Palin took in "The Legacy." But, I don't think he would have succumbed to Raistlin's call without some serious introspection and doubt. His desire to have Raistlin teach him probably would not have been expressed in such a childish wistfulness as was portrayed in this story, either. Having read stories that both precede and follow this one, I think Palin would have had a bit more of an edge to him rather than the extreme innocence he showed. There seems to be a lack of forethought in some of the ideas in this story. For example, at one point in the story, Usha and Palin are instructed by Raistlin to go to the Great Library. Although a result is obtained, it seems there should have been some purpose besides this result for them to go to the Great Library. Overall, the story is good. It has some high emotional points that will make the reader both laugh out loud and cry to himself. But, it pales in comparison to the other Dragon Lance stories by Weiss and Hickman.
Rating: Summary: Fascinating! Review: Very captivating at all times... othe rnovels I have read I found my thoughts wandering, not here. Once I got involved in the story that was it... only my children (after much screaming and hollering at Daddy from them)could break me away from this novel, and even then I was reluctant. Histories a revealed, wars are waged, and I had to read the ending alone twice, just to make sure I read what I thought I did! Highly recommended to any fantasy fan... but be forewarned... if you're not a Dragonlance fan, you may very well be after this.
Rating: Summary: Dragons of Summer Flame Review: I will refer to this story as enticing and exciting. Both to read and to criticize. When I started reading this book, I remember thinking that it was boring and that I wanted to put it down. After the first chapter or so, I just could not put it down. Dragons of Summer Flame is about how the second generation of heros save the world, and the transformation from Ansalon to Earth. For fear of revealing what happens, I will leave you with this: Dragons of Summer Flame by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman is one of the better Dragonlance books.
