Rating: Summary: A Great Remembrance of Another World Review: As Another World draws to a close after 35 memorable years, it is a real treat to have this book to remember this revolutionary show. The book is a stroll down memory lane for this 20 year viewer. The only thing missing for me is the backstage story, which was just as fascinating as the stories unfolding on the air. I will always remember my friends in Bay City whenever I read this book. Farewell, Another World, we will remember you always!!
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up For History of Another World Review: I had tears in my eyes reading this book. Knowing that Another World was going off the air after 35 years, made this a bittersweet journey through time. I relived many moments in Another World's history, it was like visiting an older relative with wonderful stories of the past. If you love Another World , you must buy this piece of soap history.
Rating: Summary: This book is a great keepsake for any Another World fanatic! Review: The book contains GREAT pictures as well as a review of history from the very begining. It is a great thing to have as a memory of our great show. It explores 35 years of the BEST soap on TV, the behind the scenes articles are very interesting. I suggest that if you are a die hard Another World fan that you get this book as soon as possible and protect it with your life.
Rating: Summary: WOW-Everyone I have shared the book with became an AW fan! Review: I received this book from my mother-in-law and LOVED it! I am a fairly new viewer of AW; I used to watch Days, and one day I continued watching NBC and got so encompassed in AW that I have watched it ever since. Having only been a fan for the past 3 years, I found that I wanted to know more and more about all of the wonderful storylines from before I had tuned in. This book is the thing for that! I have even shared it with many other friends and fellow teachers and students- it was like taking part in a piece of my family memorabilia. I could not wait to share this with MY children, whom I had expected to love AW as much as my husband and I do. Devastatingly, I guess that may not be possible now. The pictures and the writings in this book are exceptional! I felt as if I was a part of all of this great history. It is amazing to me to see all of the wonderful actors and actresses and all of the touching and educational storylines all together- captured in this book. I plan on buying one for several others if they continue to broadcast AW. My husband and I have moved three times since I began watching AW, and in each place we find tons of dedicated viewers; not to mention all of the people who START watching it after seeing a show with us or hearing our recommendation. It touches every type of person - my husband is a college coach and many of his athletes are even die-hard AW fans! We are all absolutely heart-broken to hear that NBC has decided to let this program go! If you are reading this and feel the same way, PLEASE take a few moments to let your feelings be known. Supposidly, they did not feel they were affecting many people. This is one show on television that can truly touch an entire family! The storylines are exceptional and they touch on issues that are in need of publicity and awareness. The characters are so much more "real" than any other show I have ever seen on TV. I cannot stress enough how much this show means to SO MANY thousands of people. It is the longest running daytime show, and it is certainly the front runner in terms of storylines, actors/actresses, settings, humor, real-life issues that have been educational to me, make-up, design, etc. etc. This book does a great job of following AW's history. I would recommend the book to anyone -as would I recommend the show. It is truly the only show I have found that meets my interest level AND my husband's and teenage students. If NBC will do nothing to keep the show on the air, and I am begging them to do something-anything! - then PLEASE - if another network can hear this- PLEASE keep it going!!!! I promise you will receive so many loyal families of viewers! Again, to the author of this book, I thank you for allowing me to "step into" AW- and get a true feel for the memories and the established history that is there. No one can take that away! I hope that no one takes the show away.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT REFERENCE FOR "AW'S" POST-COURTNEY YEARS Review: If you have been a fan of this serial within the past two decades, you will undoubtedly enjoy "Another World: The 35th Anniversary Celebration." However, Poll's treatment of the earlier years (what I call the Jacquie Courtney era, 1964-75) pales in comparison with her coverage of recent "AW" history. Artwork is sorely lacking in this part of the book, which is criminal. Recent "AW" junkies will never get a feeling for the distinct tone of the show before its 1975 expansion. We see no photos of Carol Roux, Audra Lindley, Joe Gallison, Jordan Charney and other early stars of the show. Did anyone consider buying "Daytime TV" archive photos for this section? Also missing is the fascinating behind-the-scenes history of the show (e.g. the Reinholt-Dwyer-Courtney firings), which, of course, shaped the future direction of the show. Finally, not to be a stickler, but the "comprehensive cast list" contains several omissions (e.g., DeAnn Mears as Cybil Harak, Ilene Kristen as Madeline Thompson, Carla Borelli as Reena Bellman Cook, Ben Hammer as Striker Bellman, etc.). Overall, however, Poll does a commendable job with capturing snapshots of a hugely panoramic subject.

Rating: Summary: "Another World", my escape from reality has been cancelled Review: The 35th Anniversary Celebration of Another World Memorial Book is wonderful. I received a copy for my birthday and was completely thrilled with the quality of the writing and photographs. I have ordered another copy as a surprise gift for my mother.I can't believe how many times my mother and I said: "Do you remember that?" or "look how young so and so is that picture" As you can tell I am a die-hard fan of the program, and I was outraged and frustrated over the recent cancellation of my family's favorite television show. According to a source in New York, it has been implied that NBC Inc. feels that there has been little concern raised from fans over the devastating news. I beg to differ. Why would so many fans across North America be so viligent in saving "Another World" through rally's, polls, and petitions if we did not care? "Another World" has been a terrific source of entertainment for my family for 33 years. My mother started to watch AW in high school. She weaned me on the program. I am sure that I uttered the two "Cory" matriarchs names instead of Mommy and Daddy as my first words. The show has never ceased to entertain us. We all work full time, and look forward to relaxing by watching the taped show every evening after dinner. Over the last few years we even converted my father. He has been well trained and versed in the various plots and schemes of the good, bad, and the ugly of "BAY CITY", and he too is now among the "enchanted" "Another World" fans. I do not understand why a show as poorly written, cheaply filmed and acted in as "Sunset Beach" will remain on the air, while a quality program with brilliantly written plots and storylines is taken away from its loyal viewers. Not only does the show employ the best actors on daytime, it excels in set, wardrobe and makeup execution. We are never bombarded with story lines that "go on forever" or with characters that "talk" to themselves. Nothing aggravates me more than a program that continually "rehashes" storylines everyday. Die hard viewers know what's going on, we do not need to waste half the show filling us in on what we already know. "Another World" has never done this to us-unlike other programs such as "Sunset Beach" or the painfully outdated "Days of our Lives". If NBC Inc. refuses to wake up and keep "Another World" on the air, "someone" else must realize the ecomomic and emotional value of this show, and "pick" it up. I hope for the sakes of everyone involved in the production of "Another World" that another network succeeds in doing so. It would be a great loss not to be able to "laugh, cry, and yell" at our favorite characters everyday. Please do what you can to keep "Another World" alive. To those of you at NBC Inc., as Shania Twain would say, "DON"T BE STUPID", keep the show on. "Where there's supply and demand there's a way". I'm sure of it. I pray that I'll be watching the show with my kids, and grand-children far into the future. Here's to another 35 years "AnotherWorld". You ALL are the best. Thank you for many years of fashion tips and frequent escapes from the sometimes boring reality of normal day to day life of work, work, work. Sincerely, Stephanie K. Boyle "Loyal Another World Fan"
Rating: Summary: Take Me Back To Another World Review: 35th Anniversary Celebraton of Another World is one book no Another World fan should be without. 35 years ago Another World came to live in to our living rooms in May 4,1964, with the most effected words "We do not live in this world alone, but in a thousand other worlds." That is one of the best lines in the book and story of the show that took us to another world. Over the years actors/actress have come and go, but Another World didn't lose heart for telling stories whether they were sad that they made us cry, happy, or mad that they killed our favourite charactor off. Through the years we have lost some of our favorite actors such as Douglass Watson, Constance Ford and Brent Collins. We must not forget the families such as the Matthew's, Cory's,Frame's , Hudson's, Love's, Mckinnon's, Carlino's, Burrell's, Ewing's and Winthrop's. You could not have another world without the famous & talented Felicia Gallent and Carl Hutchison who could be good or evil and is the man who won Rachel's heart after her lost of Mac Cory. It will be a wonderful keep sake to cherish and one day look back on. Remembering the people who lived in Bay City. The memories and unforgetable love stories of all time of Ryan/Vicky, Mac/Rachel, Carl/Rachel, Paulina/Joe, Paulina/Jake, Cass/Frankie, Cass/Kathleen etc... Another thing we must forget double win in 1995-1996 when Charles Keating won outstanding leading actor in a drama series and Anna Holbrook for supporting actress in a drama series. in 1992-1993 Linda Dano won outstanding leading actress in a drama series. Douglass Watson in 1980-1981won outstanding actor in daytime drama series etc...too many to mention them all. As for the cancellation of Another World: It was a sad day when I heard. I could not believe that they nbc would cancell a soap after 35years. It will be saddly missed by all die hard fans. Remember Another World" Lyrics Another World" actucally have important meaning listen to the lyrics. (written by John Leffler and Ralph Schuckett (Warner Bros. Records), performed by Crystal Gayle and Gary Morris) "I've always seen myself as a reckless* gambler risking all that I had whenever I could But when I found you I felt different Than I ever felt before Suddenly I was taking no chances by walking through your door You are my way to Another World You are the one who helps me fly so high You are the rain when my spirits run dry You give my life a hope that's so real 'Cause when I'm with you you take me away to Another World All my life I've been called a hopeless romantic Waiting for my prince to sweep me away But then one day it happened You appeared like from a dream And we moved in synch like dancing with our hearts in harmony" [* Gary Morris has been known to substitute the word "restless" for "reckless."] Now we are the one's that can make a differences by voicing our opinions, taking chances to save our show from nbc, because Another World has been part of our lives for 35 years. Another World needs our help to save it from death. We are just hopeless romantic, it's something we can't live without. Enjoy the book.
Rating: Summary: All AW fans must have this book, it's simply the best. Review: This book is a must for all of us that have feel so strong about this high caliber, top rated day-time drama. AW will never be forgotten. How dare you NBC, but most of all HOW DARE YOU P&G, after so many years, you've abandoned AW. I will stop watching NBC, and stop buying P&G products. ABC CBS, USA, whomever, can someone out there help? My heart goes out to all the cast and crew of AW, you have given 35 years of top rated performances. I will allways be a die-hard fan! God Bless All!
Rating: Summary: AW "was" my other world - my escape for 35 years!!!!!!!! Review: I have just purchased the 35th anniversary book of Another World to keep as a memory. I cannot believe nbc has the gall to cancel such a good show with the GREATEST actors. I certainly hope ABC has the wisdom to pick it up. As of the end of June I will be free of daytime tv. Another World has been my "time out" through babies, teenagers, and troubled times. The show has really been "my space" my "GET AWAY TO ANOTHER WORLD!!" I hope nbc and ABC are made aware of the reviews and views that are being written here.
