Summary: SHOULD BE THE PRODUCERS BIBLE!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I was amazed at the amount of information in this book. I picked it up on a trip to New York City on the way to the airport since I am in the business in England and Europe. I read it on the plane across the Atlantic to Paris and when I got through with the book I was absolutely astounded at the amount of information that was in the 100 or so pages. And the reading was easy to understand. Once I got into a couple of the chapters I asked the stewardess for a highlighter so that I could highlight passages in this book. I wanted to be able to refer to them when I oput together my next project in central Europe. Although much of the information relates to making movies in the US, the theories of producing that are clearly spelled out in the book and tips on producing creatively I realized are global. I thank my taxi driver in stopping at a [local store] on the way to the airport so I could get some reading material. This book will be invaluable to me. You are probably asking why I am taking the time to write this review: that's an easy one......other people should know about the book if they are anywhere around the movies....and in surfing Amazon I came across the book...so I decided to review it cause I read it!.....Get it it will be your bible on producing. Thanks

Summary: highly overrated, not very practical
Review: I was very disappointed with this book. It doesn't provide the real world facts about making an indie film as other books do. It reads like an introductory textbook that skates over all the issues, but never really tells you the things you want to know about how to finance, cast, and sell an indie. Don't waste your money here.

Summary: MORE THAN A HANDBOOK-THIS IS THE BOOK!!!!!!!!
Review: I went to a booksigning where I saw the author speak about independent producing and discussing many of his theories of producing that are in the book. He was fabulous. I was very impressed that he wanted to know each of the people in the audience and what their interest was in the profession and he called us by our first names. He spoke for over an hour and answered all kinds of questions regarding producing and I was amazed at his breadth of knowledge so I had to buy his book. I read it in one sitting. Amazing book. It has everything in it and more......it gave me a great insight into what a producer (a true producer) is all about and what it takes to get a movie or tv show made. I never knew that it was such hard work. I now totally understand that a producer has to have the absolute vision of the project and push and drive to get it done and out there. Schreibman really knows what he is talking about....I am wondering if I can get into UCLA film school now just to study more with him....or maybe intern for him on any of the projects he is working on. You can tell I was impressed.

Summary: Real life for a real film
Review: I'm glad to say that this book actually gives you real information from real life to be able to make real movies. When I first read it I wasn't very fond of producing (Always thought it was the boring and non-creative part of filmmaking) but thanks to it, I realized how much creativity can be involved in the art of good production. And is written in a clear and straight way, interesting and with examples from the author's experience, which helps you to take those difficult steps needed to produce a film. If you are (or want to be) a producer or if you're not, a must to understand what production is about.

Summary: A practical, no holds barred look at the production process
Review: If you are looking for a practical, REALISTIC book on how to begin and finish the production process, this is the book for you. I began my very extensive hunt for a book that would spell out the production process from A-Z. This book delivered on what it said. Very often in this industry it can be smoke and mirrors...not here my friend. Myrl speaks from experience and gives it to you straight. You WILL understand the production process from start to finish after reading this book.

As an added note, I was so impressed with the book that I contacted Myrl to consult with me on a recent project. He delivered on his promises and helped me guide my project to a successful finish. A five-star book and a five-star person.

Summary: BLOCKBUSTER BOOK HAS BITE
Review: It is not often (in fact it never is) that a book so clearly explains what producing of movies is about. I noticed recently that the Board of Governors of the Motion Picture Academy changed their rules governing who is the producer of a motion picture because of the many names we see on screen in a single film as to the people listed as producers. After reading this book, I can understand why. Because the book clearly tells you in detail the importance of the one (two or three) people who really should retain the title of a producer.
If anyone wants to know who the creative dynamic force is behind a film (I mean truly behind a film) then they should read this book and stand aside cause it is full of alot of stuff that never crosses someones mind. It is amazing....the author has synthesized the process of producing and when you finish reading and re reading the book you are in awe of the massive knowledge it represents. There is no doubt that this book is indeed a blockbuster book on producing.

Summary: The field manual for film production.
Review: It's the book you've been looking for - if you're really serious about producing films. Written by a seasoned producer/director who not only has "done it" but also understands how to teach what he has learned in a clear, concise, step-by-step, and most interesting way. He offers valuable tools and nuggets of wisdom, gleaned from many years of independent film production, that you don't find in the traditional "how-to" production books. It's an easy and fascinating read and a manual to keep by your side. I've had the privilege of being taught by Myrl at the LA Cinema Training Center in Studio City, CA., where he teaches "Creative Producing." Just as he passionately ignites the classroom while examining and unraveling the mysteries and idiosyncrasies of film production, his book does the same. It's never boring and always practical, applicable and easy to understand. A must-read for those who appreciate great instruction.

Summary: obstacle overcome
Review: My screenplay was written and edited. That daunting task was completed, but then, the corner was turned and wham!, the wall that is production! The barbicon was once again erected! So what to do, where to turn! This is where this hallmark of a book enters.

Being a film school rejectee, I swore that the info taught was regarded as holy. I'm sure it is, but this book unearths the secrets of production left for those lucky enough to be accepted into a program. I spent a fraction of the money but now have equal the information and wisdom, through practical examples from the author's own hands-on experience, which before this book, was bestowed only on those who dig holes of debts.

I urge the purchase of the book for anyone who is facing the obstacle of where to go, how to start, and once commenced, where to go from there.

For all those who love the spirit of independent filmmaking, this is the book to own.
