Summary: THE ULTIMATE BOOK ON PRODUCING MOVIES
Review: ...I read the book from cover to cover and found it to be very easy reading, clear and concise to understand. Even though I knew some of the production positions that the author wrote about I was never aware of how they related to the producer. The information that the author provided about some of the thought processes of producing (creatively) were the most helpful. I never thought of such things as the relationship of a persons ego to a film project, or elements of negotiations. I especially liked his shoe fit the foot theory which makes absolute sense when you see what he is talking about. There is no doubt about it. This book is the most practical book on producing I have ever read...(and believe me I have read many!). I cannot say enough about it which made me comment here on Amazon. I thank the publisher for finding the author and publishing the book.

Summary: MENTORING IN PROGRESS
Review: Although the author of this book is a professor at UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television this book reads like someone who is mentoring a producer and not as a curriculum for a film school. His expert years as a producer for the stage, the screen and television is clearly evident as he uses his own anecdotes from projects he has produced to send home his points on producing. That is not to say that the book is full of war stories (as often is the case when you take these industry seminars and get nothing out of it but vignettes and situations) but instead is full of very practical knowledge and explanations and sound reasoning about producing that will not confuse the beginner and make absolute sense to the more advanced. I came across this book when surfing through Amazon.com and it looked rather interesting. I was also affected by the reviews from others which sparked my interest to get it. I work in one of the peripheral professions to the industry and when I read this book, I got a complete understanding of what challenges and difficulties it is to be a producer. It is not the raising of the funds...but the actual making of the project for the funds that were raised. And keeping it creative. After looking at Project Greenlight on HBO and then going back to this book...I had thought that the people involved with Greenlight should have either read the book or talk to its author before or during the making of the project. I think they would have saved themselves a lot of heartaches (but then maybe not a TV show). Get the book and you will see what I mean.

Summary: What you need to know to make a film.
Review: Finally, a book that is actually useful! This book let's the serious producer and director approach the process in a realistic and effective way. It is both comprehensive and inspiring. It covers the issues no one wants to talk about, such as, if you want to make a film and you have the money there are actual steps you need to take. There's no mystery or B.S. here, but there's plenty of insight and knowledge. Great read!

Summary: REVIEW FROM THE OBSERVER (London)
Review: For any wannabe film producer on a tight budget, The Indie Producer's Handbook will prove indispensable. The author teaches at the University of California, Los Angeles, and has been an actor, a director and a producer. This handbook covers everything from raising money to production costs, the role of both writer and director, editing, nudity, working with animals, and much else. Schreibman is knowledgeable about his subject. After reading this work, many of us will watch films with a renewed respect for the complexity that went into their making.

The writer also brings us up to speed on the fascinating vocabulary of the film world: 'black-track print', 'walla', 'foley', and other terms are explained economically. Schreibman claims that the producer provides 'creativity in front, behind, before and after the rolling of a camera'. This first-class handbook shows how.

Summary: The Indie Producer's Handbook-Creative Producing from A-Z
Review: For anyone who dreams of being a film producer, this book is a must. As a writer who intends to produce, I predict this book will be "the" book all future producers will use as a reference guide to film production. Without question it covers all aspects of film production just as the title promises. From pre-production, through production and then into post production, Myrl Schreibman covers it all. Film production is a tremendous undertaking and Myrl tells it like it is in a manner that is enjoyable and informative. I highly recommend this book for anyone who intends to take a film career seriously.

Summary: THE ULTIMATE BOOK ON PRODUCING MOVIES
Review: I bought this book after reading a review on Cinescape.com an on line magazine site. The reviewer was a graduate student in the Producer's Program at the University of Southern California Film School (I guess one of the best) and he was hesitant to review this book because he had read many books on producing and was afraid this would be a rehash of those other books. But he was very surpised and pleased as it wasn't and he raved about the fresh approach full of information and philosphies of producing. He said that the book would be great for amateurs, beginners and even seasoned professionals and I thought that was such a great endorsement that I bought the book because I am going to a film school in Arizona. He was right! I read the book from cover to cover and found it to be very easy reading, clear and concise to understand. Even though I knew some of the production positions that the author wrote about I was never aware of how they related to the producer. Summary: KEEP THIS ONE BY YOUR BEDSIDE
Review: I bought this book because it had cool art work and boy was I surprised. I was a student at NYU Tish School of the Arts majoring in Film Producing and this book taught me more about producing than the years I spent at NYU. I read the book from cover to cover in one sitting and then I decided that I would re-read a little each night before going to sleep. So I keep it at my bedside. Every night I learn more and more about the creative side of producing...and discovering that it is as much an art form as directing or writing. This book has really opened my eyes. I don't know who Myrl Schreibman is except that he is on the faculty of UCLA but I wish I had taken courses from him if he is anything like his book. This is a book that I will refer to alot. Thanks

Summary: A SOON - TO - BE PRODUCER'S COMMENTS
Review: I bought this book, "THE INDIE PRODUCERS HANDBOOK, Creative Producing from A - Z" about two weeks ago when I saw a friend of mine reading it one day at a coffee shop in the Village. It looked kind of interesting since I want to go into the film and television business in some way using my background in finance on Wall Street. Even though my friend had experience and said that the book was basically for people who knew about making movies, this book made it so simple for me (a layman) to understand that it got me excited about the possibility of producing in some way. Until I read this book, I thought a producer was just the guy who supplied the money. Now I know it is much more than that. Somewhere in the book the author reminds us the importance of the producer by pointing out that it is the producer who gets the Oscar for Best Movie. When I read that, everything hit home to me. This book not only provides the info but the practical experiences that the author had and from many people which enhances the value it offered to me. I haven't looked at many other books on producing...but I know that this is one I will hold on to when (and if) I go into the business...(which I probably will!)I think I will use it to find answers that may come up.
