Rating: Summary: Great for Kids or beginners... Review: Taoism is one of the most interesting of the Chinese religion/philosophies. The idea of "The Tao," Yin and Yang, balance, and going with the flow of nature in my opinion is very interesting and something we all need to look at.There are many great translations of Taoist texts and books that interpret them. However, not everyone is big into East Asian philosophy. It is for those people I recommend this version and this entire series of cartoon Chinese philosophy books. They are really cute, make good gifts, and are great in the classroom. I recommend this book for teachers and as a gift. People who are deep into this stuff, will understandably have problems with these books. However, for beginners, kids, and as a gift these books are great.

Rating: Summary: Western Humor Review: The cartoon approach is interesting, and may be good for younger readers, but the edition Tao Te Ching by Gia-Fu Feng and Jane English is still the best for sheer poetry and beautiful images to go with it.

Rating: Summary: Western Humor Review: The Tao Te Ching is considered among the most beautiful Asian texts ever written. Although a subtle sense of humor pervades the text, most westerners in my opinion would fail to see it amongst the beauty of the text. This book is a great way for many to understand the humor of the Tao Te Ching. For those interested in more slap-stick style humor (more popular in the west) I recommend "Zhuangzi Speaks" by Tsai Chih Chung--a famous Taiwanese cartoonist. Zhuangzi (Chuang Tzu) was a famous contemporary of Lao Tzu and his outrageous stories lend themselves to cartoons. ;~}
