Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Review
Review: This book is extremely up to date with current research. Anyone studying music theory, aural skills pedagogy or music education must read this book. This book also builds on previous studies done by scholars important in the field of music psychology as well. Separating the chapters into easily accesible units such as melodic dictation and harmonic dictation makes references quick and easy!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Dryly Academic...
Review: This book makes for an excellent reference, but as far as "aural skills aquisition" it leave the work to you. It basically describes various ear training techniques with scholarly research and referencing, but contains no real exercises or techniques. The book thus ends as more of a study of aural skills aquisition, and not an aural skills aquisition study. It might be of use to teachers and fanatics, but certainly not college-level musicians. In other words, don't expect to improve your ear by reading this book unless you can adapt the (rather vague) conclusions into some type of training system.
