Rating: Summary: this book shows an evil power-hungry mother Review: I read this book, and I can't believe anyone could care for Nancy's mom. Nancy was the innocent victim her entire life. Her mother is the most vile thing around. She never loved Nancy. She even admitted she wished she had an opportunity to have an abortion. So therefor never cared for her. She was married , got pregnant, and says "How could this happen?" gets pregnant twice more, and repeats the same statement. What a useless idiot. Oh, then everything is Nancy's fault. She even had the nerve to say that Nancy pushed her into having an affair. Then when Nancy starts getting national attention, she goes "Why would anyone care about her, what has she ever done?" (or something along that line) She couldn't even be happy for her daughter. All she ever was was jealous and hateful of her daughter. And then when Nancy died she questioned why her other daughter would cry over it. And to top it all off, she didn't even give Nancy a headstone. This book is sad. It terrible to read how parents can abuse their own child. Then she starts this victim rights organization so she can bring some media attention her way, which is a complete joke since she obviously never cared for her daughter. Anybody who thinks Deborah is a fine person is inhuman in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: I am not finished with this book, but it is amazing. Review: I have not finished this book yet, but it is so fascinating, raw, and simply unbelievable. It keeps you locked inside the Spungen home and unable to comprehend how Deborah and her family were able to deal with Nancy, even as a baby. I totally recommend it to anyone, especially people who have children with mental problems.
Rating: Summary: This book was so intense,I couldn't put it down. Review: Deborah Spungen,Nancy's mother...gives a real life dramatic detail of her life raising Nancy Spungen.I felt so sorry for the family, and also Nancy. The way she died was so horrible...she was NOT just a junkie...but Sid Vicious'best friend, lover and soul mate. It's a MUST READ for sure!!! Dee
Rating: Summary: Rest in peace Sid and Nancy Review: It's a shame that Nancy's intelligence and energy were wasted so quickly. Many people have turbulent adolescent years and survive to learn and grow from the experience. I think many people can relate to Nancy and how she felt - they're just able to control it more.
Rating: Summary: great book Review: yeah, i read this book, i think that it was really good, i read it a couple of times actually. it really shows how nancy was hurting and all the pain that she put her family through. it is good to actually read something that has meaning to people other than the super-smart adults.
Rating: Summary: One year ago Review: I read this book, it was the first book I actually finished. I hope Debbie reads these reviews. I'm sure she would greatly appreciate everyones comments. I sometimes wonder how her other children are doing, and how Debbie is doing. Lord knows she deserves peace, and happiness in her life.
Rating: Summary: Deeply moving Review: I was amazed by Deborah Spungen's straight- forward, yet sensitive portrayal of her daughter Nancy's tormented life. The way in which she managed to hold her family together whilst trying to find the cause of Nancy's problems was inspiring. How did she cope? This is one very strong woman. Even though the reader is aware of the book's conclusion, your heart still aches for Deborah and the loss of her firstborn child. This book shows the private Nancy Spungen - an incredibly different view than that of her public persona. It will help many people to understand the reason behind her behaviour. As a result, perhaps in future the public will be less quick to judge others by what is printed in the media. I sincerely hope that Deborah Spungen has finally found peace in a life suffused with pain.
Rating: Summary: Worth reading if you're a parent, punk, or person Review: A Sex Pistols fanatic at the age of 16, I found this book not long after the death of my stepfather. Though the descriptions of how a family touched by violence can fall apart made me very uncomfortable at the time, Mrs. Spungen's honesty and clarity caused me to look outside of myself and see that it wasn't glamorous to die young and abused. To this day, I feel sorry for Nancy Spungen.....though I also think she was by no means sympathetic. Even her boyfriend, Sid Vicious, got played by her. What can I say? Excellent, excellent book
Rating: Summary: Wow. Review: I read this book when I was fifteen. It was at the time I first started listening to the Sex Pistols. This book moved me. It provided inspiration that no matter what was happening in my life at that moment - I wasn't the only one. This book takes you through the life of a girl who was having trouble just being her and ends with the results of a self-destructive life
Rating: Summary: Captivating Review: i've never been one who reads for enjoyment, but i must say, deborah spungen keeps your eyes glued to the pages in this book. her words pain the story out. you cna literally picture exactly what she's talking about. it's an amazing story of a mother's struggle with her troubled daughter.
