He is all but synonymous with the Forgotten Realms. Ed Greenwood, likewise, the grandfather of all things Fearunian brings to life the lands of old, and while he's at it he tells the tale of a young sheppard boy, who would someday be both beloved and despised by millions of people, both real, and imaginary. Greenwood, who has a tendency to through in nudity for no other sake than its own, strikes gold with El:MotM. Recounting his tale from his humble youth through the culmination of years of vengeful longing. We witness as Elminster Aumar tackles the arts of combat, thievery, and priestcraft. We see the elves of Toril, and get introduced to the Maulagrym, a fearsome foe detailed in "The Shadows of the Avatar trilogy". We meet a living Shoon, the mighty Mystra, Lady of Magic, and several small time thieves who add a touch of comic relief with that trademark Greenwood wit. This first of three books detailing the life of a young Elminster, is a true winner. For any realms fan it's a must, for anyone who wants to love El, or wants to Hate him, this is a must. Read this book.

Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: A good way to fall asleep Review: This has got to be the most boring forgotten realms book I ever read. Ed Greenwood seems to put me to sleep. Do yourself a favor and get some other book. If you are having insomnia, pick this up. Its a good cure.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: BEST BOOK EVER Review: I think this is the best book I ever read about the Forgotten Realms. Finally there is a well written background about one of the best NPC's in the Realms. You've got to buy this one. And one thing. Ignore the bad remarks about Ed Greenwood. He's an excellent writer and we shouldn't forget that he's the one who invented the Forgotten Realms. So back off en let the man do his outstanding writing!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A great portrayal of different classes, all played by Elm Review: The transition from Fighter to thief, Theif to Priest, and Priest to Mage was put in such a way as to teach Elminster the different ways of the world until he finnaly found his way to becoming the mage that he is now.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ Review: This book is simple the best one I have ever read. You follow Elminster as he grows up and becomes a powerful mage. Every line in this book held my attention. As one who's most interested in magic I loved this book and its many great and interesting spells. Good job Ed Greenwood!!!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: I should have eaten my money instead. Review: There was a time when fantasy literature was filled with colorful characters and epic heroism. Sadly, Greenwood's book leaves Elminster looking like another twelve year old hack-n-slash power AD&D character. Perhaps one day someone with a modicum of writing talent will be able to bestow more than one dimension Elminster.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ. Review: This book was the best book I ever read. It is to cool. I realy like how many times people got slattered. If you like strange things there is one part were he gets turned into a Girl. I realy like when he kills all the old people that he doesn,t like and I like when he is a she and goes to rob the tomb and ends up killing the mages ghost by making it hit the wall intill it falls apart and dies but even then it has to run more and more into the wall and then later when the two guys get changed into rocks and placed in the bottom of the ocean.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: DOOM Review: Elminster, one of the greatest books i've ever read. Plot holes-yes, mild reading- yes, interesting- yes, fun to read- yes. By far not the best book i ever read, but still up there. Reading it reminds me of when you read children stories that you read when you were a young child. You remember them well, but now you relize how silly they are, but none the less, you still enjoy them just as much as you did when you were a kid.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: I like El better as a geezer, thanks. Review: Like others have already said, Ed Greenwood is a good game designer but a lousy writer. That's not to say he's not descriptive. He manages to present a situation without taking ten pages to describe it(I call this Jordanism), but Greenwood makes the likeable Elminster into an arrogant snot in this book. Elminster goes rapidly from a wuss to a cosmic badass who kicks the hell out of ancient red dragons and "archmages" faster than you can roll 12d6. Greenwood makes Elminster obscenely powerful at, what, age 40? What's he now, 750? Why isn't he playing basketball with crystal spheres? Doesn't make sense. I liked Elminster better when I didn't know where he came from. Avoid this book and stick to dedicated authors like Salvatore.
