Rating: Summary: The BEST Three Stooges Reference Book Review: After 20 years in print, this 1983 book remains the best book for Three Stooges fans! If you want to know all about the Stooges themselves, the team's history, the films, the records, the comic books, 50 years of collectibles & memorabilia, and so much more... Twenty years of subsequent Stooges research has turned up some discrepancies, but overall this book is the definitive reference tool. Authors Joan Howard, who is Moe's daughter, and the Lenburg brothers created a tome that deserves an updated printing for the 2000's! (Although the current management of C3 will probably not allow that to happen.) Since SCRAPBOOK's publication, it has been worthily joined by: - THE COMPLETE THREE STOOGES by Jon Solomon, a detailed and worthy companion that analyses each Three Stooges film from 1930 - 1970 - Moe Howard's own autobiography, MOE HOWARD AND THE THREE STOOGES (1976) * - And, Joan Howard's CURLY: BIOGRAPHY OF THE SUPERSTOOGE (1985) * * Out of print, but used copies are readily available from Amazon, other online retailers, and online auction sites ... This book and the aforemtioned companions combine to make the best reference tools for any Three Stooges fan!

Rating: Summary: SOITENLY I GIVE THIS 3 STOOGES SCRAPBOOK +A+A+A+A+A+ Review: For nearly twenty years, Joan's "Three Stooges Scrapbook" has been the one reference book that any Stooge fan cannot be without. The book is conveniently divided into sections (biographies, history of the team, television, collectables, etc.), is easy to read, and is one of the most comprehensive books on the comedy team ever to be published. You will refer to this book again and again.

Rating: Summary: Priceless Review: I have owned this book since it was first published and words can't describe how much I love it. I refer to it all the time. Love drips off the pages--the love the Stooges had for their fans, their families for them, and the Stooges for each other. Who wouldn't be proud to be a Stooge?
Rating: Summary: Emil Sitka Would Erase the "S" in "Scrapbook" Review: Joan Howard's The Three Stooges Scrapbook has many of the same inaccuracies which were originally printed in her father's own Moe Howard and the Three Stooges (which incidentally was a much better story of the renowned comedy team). The late Emil Sitka (a popular Stooges co-star) once told me that he would always remember this work as The Three Stooges Scrapbook -- just as long as you erase the "S" in "Scrapbook"!!!
Rating: Summary: A tribute to one of the world's greatest comedy teams Review: One of the co-authors of this book is Joan Howard Maurer, daughter of the late Moe Howard(1897-1975). This book has everything there is to know about the legandary Three Stooges. First, there's a historical overview which tells about the origin of the team and short biographies of all six Stooges named Moe,Larry Fine,Moe's brothers Curly and Shemp,Joe Besser and Curly Joe DeRita. The Stooges have made 190 short subject comedies for Columbia Pictures between 1934 and 1957. The first 97 featured Curly, the most popular third Stooge which were filmed between 1934 and 1946. The next 77 featured Shemp, who replaced Curly since Curly's terminal illness forced him to quit the team. Those were filmed between 1946 and 1955. After Shemp died in 1955,Joe Besser replaced him, filming the last 16 comedies between 1956 and '57. Then Besser's wife became ill and he was unwilling to leave her. So Joseph Wardell aka Curly Joe DeRita(his head was shaved like Curly Howard's) joined the team in '58 and he,Moe and Larry filmed a few movies and made a few cameo appearances in others. The Stooges "died" in 1970 after Larry suffered a paralyzing stroke confining him to a wheelchair until his death in 1975. He died January 24 that year and Moe's death followed May 4 the same year. During Wardell's tenure, the Stooges made some television cartoons bearing their likenesses. Curly died in 1952 at age 48. His heavy drinking brought on his illness. Shemp died of a massive heart attack while riding a taxicab after attending a boxing match. He was 60. Besser died in 1988 at age 80 and Wardell died 5 years later at age 83. This book also contains a filmography of all Three Stooges films with brief synopses. Some of them give filming dates. I've been a Three Stooges fan for over two decades and this book is a must for all Stooge fans.
Rating: Summary: Start your Stooge book collection with this Review: Partially written by Moe's daughter, this is the book the budding stooge fan should buy first. Each of the stooges (Moe, Larry, Curly, Shemp, Joe, and Curly Joe) are given a separate biographical chapter. Their filmmaking history is covered, as well as less well known forays into Television, Comic Books, and yes, singing record albums. The stooges proved to be successful in nearly everything they tried. But the best feature by far is the reference synopses of EVERY stooge short, complete with cast list, director, and trivia. If a gag was used in multiple shorts (many were), they are cross-referenced. A must for any stooge's film festival. Another highlight is photos of the original lobby cards for the shorts. A number of family photographs are included, in which almost all, the boys are shown mugging. A gem for any stooge fan, it has been in print for more than 20 years.
