Rating: Summary: Absolutely Hysterical! Review: I am currently going to school to become a preschool teacher and this summer ('97) I took a course in Creative Activities for Young Children. On the last night of class, our professor read us a final "night-night" story. It was this book. Every person in that room was "into" the story and laughing hysterically. This is one book I am adding to my collection. I agree with alvjwang@smartt.com: It may have been written as a children's book, but any age WILL enjoy it
Rating: Summary: The truth speaks for itself! Review: It may have been written as a children's book, but I'm sure
that people of any age will enjoy it. There's nothing like
finding out the other side of the story and having a good laugh when you see how silly the misconceptions we have
of the wolf are! It is definately one to keep on the shelves for a lifetime of laughs. :
Rating: Summary: Now we know the OTHER side of the story... Review: I believe that everyone has at least one favorite children's book. It may be one that brings back a good memory of being read to, or it may be one that can still put a smile on your face and make you laugh. For me, one of those books is The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! written by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. I first read this book about thirteen years ago when my mom bought it for me. Nothing at that time could have made me happier than this book. The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs! is a hilarious retelling of the classic The Three Little Pigs. Only this time, the story is told from the perspective of the "Big Bad Wolf", named A. Wolf in this story. A. Wolf's version tells all about his side of the story. At the beginning of this book, A. Wolf explains, "I don't know how this whole Big Bad Wolf thing got started, but it's all wrong". A. Wolf says that all he was trying to do was borrow a cup of sugar from the pigs so that he could bake his dear old granny a birthday cake. It was all a big misunderstanding, at least according to A. Wolf.
Not only is this one of the best written children's stories I have seen, it is also one of the best illustrated. The author Jon Scieszka is known for his off-beat children's books, and I think they are an excellent way to get children to read, because he makes his stories so much fun for all ages. I am now twenty-one years old and just re-read this book and it still made me laugh out loud. As a child, I could not get enough of this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to have a good laugh, and who doesn't want that?
Rating: Summary: Straight From The Wolf's Stomach! Review: My almost 4-year-old thinks this is hands-down THE funniest book ever. The Big Bad One is just an average wolf with a headcold caught in some rather damning circumstances. The best kid's books weld wit, gross-out and action together and this has all that in spades. Excellent illustrations too.
Rating: Summary: Rude Pig Frames Wolf! Review: Sure it's a good way to get your youngsters to start to think about the possibility that there is more than one "side" to a story, but that would just make this book sound "educational" and where would be the fun in THAT!?
This book is a delightful story that lends itself to ridiculous levels of "hamming" things up when reading it aloud. Poor, poor wolf with the terrible cold that just needs to bake a cake for his dear old granny. Even my oldest child (12 yob) sticks around to hear me read this "one more time" to my younger children.
Rating: Summary: It wasn't my fault! Review: Did you know that the wolf is really innocent? He just had a cold. This book can be a good introduction to the concept of two sides to every story. It's creative and enjoyable to read.
Rating: Summary: Funny book, but don't get it too early Review: My elementary-school age son loves the upside-down fairy tale books, like The Stinky Cheese Man, The Wolf Who Cried Boy, or The Big Bad Pig and the Three Little Wolves. This book isn't as much fun for him as those, because at least 80% of the humor is intended for somebody no younger than 12. *I* laugh my head off whenever we read it; it's certainly a five-star book. Just don't expect a young child to enjoy the book.
