Rating: Summary: Amusing! Review: As someone who is interested in Children's Book Illustration, Lane Smith's pictures are VERY humorous, and John Scieszka's writing, make this duo one of the best Children's Picture Book writer and illustrator to come out in a long time! A Big Thumbs Up!
Rating: Summary: The inside scoop Review: Reporters especially may appreciate the wolf's hysterical complaints about the press. Real sources and subjects often complain. And sometimes unscrupulous reporters do shoot for a hot angle, slanting news sharply away from the facts. Those two bits of information made me laugh out loud every time I read this new-age classic. The author obviously has some inside skinny.Your kids will miss the ironies, as did mine. But they'll like it a lot if you read the wolf's part with a Brooklyn accent. Go for it. You only live once. Rating: Summary: Poor Alexander T. Wolf.... Review: Finally the truth comes out that the wolf wasn't the bad guy that the pigs made him out to be. What could cause a nice wolf like Al to go after the pigs? Read this and find out. This book is so funny. Scieszka is a fantastic storyteller. This is a book for kids and adults with the hart of kids that never really grew up,and that qualifiles me. *LOL* This book can be used to teach kids lessons that deal with Point of View of one character. I plan to use use this book in my classroom when I start teaching. I can't say enough good things about this book. Scieszka is a fantasctic author. I have several of his books. I highly suggest he is added to your children's library. You won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: I found this objectionable Review: I thought this was a cute concept and was looking forward to giving it to my grandchildren. However, I was horrified when the wolf ate the pigs. The book was very funny except for this part so if eating the pigs doesn't bother you I would recommend it. However, I will be returning it.
Rating: Summary: Lots of Fun! Review: This book is just as fun to read (probably more!) for a parent to read out loud as it is for your child to hear. It is a gem of a book, VERY funny and clever, I really love it and highly recommend it, my son loves it!
Rating: Summary: c'mon Al, fess up ! Review: This hillarious book could be read two ways...was Mr. Wolf framed ? Was it just media excess up to its usual tricks ? Could be, ya never know ! Or, was old Al just like those people "near and dear" to us, who will say anything, blame anyone, and re-write history if necessary, to justify their actions ? Yes, I have a feeling Mr. Wolf had a big weasel streak in him. It would be interesting to read this story with kids and point out these two viewpoints, and how good it feels to be able to say "I did it, and I'm sorry". The illustrations by Lane Smith are brilliant, expressive, and with a lot of wit...the "protein" in the giant cheeseburger is so funny !...there are details that will keep you entertained for several viewings, and the use of newspaper cuttings is great. This is a unique and imaginitve book for all ages...the adults I think will appreciate it the most, because old Al will remind us of a few people we know...
Rating: Summary: Not for little kids Review: This is interesting spin on the traditional story of the three little pigs. It is told from the perspective of the big bad wolf. I read this to my 2 1/2 year old and I doubt I will be reading it to him again until he's a little older. This book is geared more for older kids and adults. I found some of the concepts hard for small children to understand; comparing eating a little pig to us eating a cheeseburger. Most of the illustrations are very cute but some of them are a little abstract. This is very entertaining for the appropriate age group.
Rating: Summary: What Our Class thought! K. Rufus Review: Funny, cleverly done. We loved reading the story through the eyes of the wolf. So is he really as mean as we all think? Getting just a cup of sugar got him in a lot of trouble. Read and find out what happens.
Rating: Summary: The true story of the three little pigs Review: I am an education student and I was looking for a book to read to my fellow students in one of my night courses and fell in love with this book. It is a great story and I think good for any age. I am going to try it on adults. I think they will get a kick out of it..
Rating: Summary: The True Story of the Three Little Pigs Review: Wow! This is a really great children's book! Author, Jon Scieszka really wrote an interesting and entertaining spinoff of to the well known original story of the Three Little Pigs. This would be a great book for teachers to use in all the elementary school classes. However, ideally this book could be used for second and third grade children. The book was basically about the wolf's version of what happened in The Three Little Pigs. I don't want to give the story away, but who ever reads it will find it quite enjoyable and humorous. Teachers can incorporate this book to teach lessons on QAR, people's different points of view, and writing persuasive letters or letters to the editor. It is a truly a useful book which can be used in many versatile ways. It's a great book!
