Review: Okay, first things first. This IS NOT a shooting script. This is a word for word verbatim transcription. A shooting script shows everything that the director shot during filming. This is the edited version. I would not have bought this book had I known it was basically a copy of the movie. What makes a shooting script great is you can see what scenes the director left out and how the complexion of the movie changes on the set, in edting, and else where. This has NONE OF THAT. So buyer beware, this is not a shooting script. A great script, but not what it claims to be. That's why I gave it such a low star score. Like I said, fantastic script, but a horrible lie to the consumer when it purports to be a shooting script.

Review: Seriously, I have never seen such a powerful, well-acted movie before in my entire life. The narration is fabulous. Obviously, if the movie is that good, then the screenplay is too. Parts are hilarious, parts are VERY sad. BUY THIS!... and when the movie comes out - buy that too!

Summary: American Beauty- the reality of the American Dream
Review: The Film, American Beauty is hard to describe, not quite fitting into any specific genre. The film does however, make the audience aware of society's preoccupation with the quest for the American dream. The film reveals, through witty dialogue, honest interactions between average suburbanites in the '90s, squashing the myths of family harmony. The book, American Beauty: The shooting script, most adequitely shows the genious of the films director, Sam Mendes and the brillance of the cast as a whole. If you enjoyed the film, the book is a must read.

Summary: Oh my God.....What else is there to say?
Review: The first time I saw this film I was in awe, I had to go see it again the next day. When I bought the screenplay I couldn't put it down. When class was dull, waiting for a ride, in the car, where ever I was, I was reading it. I lost count at how many times I had been through it at thirteen. This is the most brilliant script I have read. It has helped push me into writing and has opened my eyes wider to life. The messages and internal struggles are so well thought out and displayed, this book is a masterpiece. I have not found too many folks over twenty five who truly understand and appreciate the film, which is horrible, but some are so set in their ideas and closed off. But the screenplay has atleast helped them open-up to its message. Even if you didn't like the movie (which is impossible), you will completly enjoy the screenplay. I just can't imagine anyone not loving this film or book. It's just, spac-tac-ular.

Review: The movie is good, so this is good. But one thing I like about the screenplay version of TERMINATOR 2 is that it includes additional scenes, etc., that didn't make the final film. The orignal version of AMERICAN BEAUTY has the drug-dealer boy friend being framed for Spacey's murder, and also Spacey actually has sex with his daughter's friend. They changed those things for the movie, and I would have liked to have seen the alternate versions, even if as an appendix at the end. But nice to have the script nonetheless.

Review: The movie is INCREDIBLE - very apropos for the end of the 90's. My daughter gave me the wonderful quote above. We laughed, we cried, and we were jolted by the reality of it all. Truly a masterpiece. Thank you to all involved.

Review: This book is the work of a truly inspired writer! It is carefully constructed and gives a real insight into the movie and it's characters. The movie "American Beauty" is undoubtedly one of the greatest cinema experiences to be discovered for quite a while. Set with a great and talented cast, this movie isn't for the over-sensitive people. Alan Ball has found a way to tear at the hearts of even the most insensitive among us. So, without going any further and ruining the experience for all you prospective cinema-goers, I would like to say that this is a great movie for people of all ages ranging from 16- well as old as you get! The only downfall to the script is that some people may find it rather....challenging to understand at first. I'm 17 years old but I have a great love for literature and I found it both inspiring and somewhat addictive.
