Rating: Summary: Best of the Best (Whether you're a poker player or not) Review: This book is so full of vitality, humor and life lessons that being a poker player is almost irrelevant to the enjoyment of it. It is written with masterful logic and precision and whizzes by faster than you can turn its pages. Here's a sample from the chapter Dealing with Losses: ...after suffering the bad beat...I was very upset..but KNEW that I was upset. So I left the table, took a walk, went to my favorite Chinese restaurant..and took some time to relax and gain..perspective. I didn't return until I had gotten the loss out of my system and could concentrate on the hand in front of me(instead of the hand I had just lost) I played a couple of more hours with a clear head, and managed to win back the amount I lost on that hand..and then some. Now wouldn't that approach help lift us over many of life's hurdles? This book is a little gem!!!

Rating: Summary: Pays for itself in one session! Review: This is a must have for any serious or even beginning 7 card stud player. The strategy is sound and explained well. What I found particularly helpful is the "extras" you don't always get in poker books. How to look for a good game, games to avoid, how to deal with bad beats etc. Some poker books read like college text books. This is much more entertaining and it's easier to learn when you enjoy what you are reading. The book is aimed at low and medium limit games, which is what the majority of non professionals will play in. Whether you are a novice looking to learn the game or an experienced player looking to improve, this book will help you. The only thing I would like to see in the next edition would be a little more on playing on-line games, which are quite different than playing in a casino.

Rating: Summary: From poor player to rich player Review: This was an excellent book to help transition me from a home-game stud player into surviving and winning at the casino. I have played Texas Hold'em for a while and often find myself sitting idly by waiting for a seat. Since I was a regular in the poker room, the floor supervisor talked me into spending my time at the stud table. My first round I took my beating like all the beginners but my determination win lead me to this book. And I thank my determination. After this book I tripled my money. If you have played in the casino, you can skip the first chapter. If you are new to casino play, read chapter one. It is accurate and will help ease you into this new setting. The second chapter is the meat of this book. It will no make you a world class stud player, but if you follow the simple strategies and starting hands you will be a money maker. The remainder of the book goes into more advanced concepts and I found that in the lower limit games that most players start in, these advanced concepts-deception, bluffing, and reading-are not as useful as portrayed in this book. As you continue your development, these concepts will be more useful.
