Review: JohnGalt Strichman's "How Not to Lose at Spades," is a "must read" for all serious Spade players. I have been playing Spades for 1 year. Six months ago I started studying "How Not to Lose at Spades" my game has wonderfully improved. Me a rookie defeating 15 year old or more veterans on a regular basis! Since I have learned the definitions and terms of various plays, I feel comfortable and confident when I sit at a game table. Knowing the many nuances and subtlties of winning and how to accomplish them makes a difference in your victories. The book is a winner! Read it and become a winner too!

Review: I bought Johns book several months ago.. I cant begin to say enough good things about what he teachs in the book. I have used many of the techniques and im winning consistantly now. Its so much fun to use them cause most of the time the opps have no idea what hit them. THANKS JOHN

Review: I am an avid spades player. I figured reading this book would be good for pointers & reminders. But after reading the book I learned quite a bit more then I expected to. The author not only explains how to apply certain techniques, but explains why they work in a fun & interesting way. I would highly recommend this book to any spades player from novice to expert.

Review: This book is an absolute "must read" for anyone who enjoys the game of spades and especially for those that take the game a bit more seriously and want to understand the thought process behind the game. Its amazing to learn what's really behind the game of spades, with some great humor thrown in. When you finish reading this book, you'll want to read it again, and then you'll want to refer to it again and again. "How Not to Lose at Spades" definitely makes playing spades a lot more interesting, challenging, rewarding and FUN!!

Review: this is the "funnest", easiest to read and understand book I have ever read on anything. Spades is a complicated card game but John makes "sense" of it for his readers. I have played bridge before learning spades - I wish someone had written a bridge book this entertaining, explanatory, and well-written!!! It has improved my spades game by an average of 2-5 spades honors per month.

Review: I ordered this book hoping for some clues on improving my game. When I ordered "How Not To Lose At Spades", I also ordered one for my spades partner as a gift. Little did I know how much I'd learn in every chapter. Jack Strichman has chosen to teach with humor as well as his insightful spades knowledge. He's also made it simple to understand and grasp. I found Jack very refreshing as well as helpful when he's online. With a few new approaches to the game and a whole lot of new found confidence, I ventured to a live tourney in Atlanta. My partner JonnyGee and I walked away with first place. The win was great to have but Jack was there and his pride in our win made it super sweet. Review: John has made this perfect for all those who really want to learn this game. Examples of how the same hand can be played to the situation any number of ways make it easy finally for beginners and long time players, to see all the nuances of this great game. This book is a must read for anyone who wishes to improve their game and take it to the next level. There are card flippers and there are spades players, if you wish to become a player, then this book will show you how to stop just flipping cards. Excellant book, buy a copy for the people you play with as well.

Review: In the age in which we live, lots of authors dash together books that make claims not altogether true. Jack Strichman is not one of them. He has written THE definitive manual in "How Not to Lose at Spades".
By nature, the game of spades is much the same as any other game of skill. The team that makes the fewest mistakes usually wins; therefore,it is incumbent upon any serious player to learn prospective pitfalls, strategies to avoid them, and ways to lead the other team down the mistake ridden path. This Strichman teaches in a way that is easy to understand and remember. Anyone who has played can insert himself easily into the illustratory stories. What's more,Strichman goes through lots of situations a number of times so the reader can visualize each piece of business in his mind as it happens in the book and thusly recognize when it happens in one of his games.
The best thing about this book is that when one buys it, they also make a friend of an expert spader. Anytime one runs across a situation unusual in their spading experience, Jack is as close as his e mail address. The reader's progress tickles him just about as much as it does the reader.
Like most self help books, it is a tool- no better or worse than the person who wields it. Therefore, how much one improves depends on the strength of motivation. For me, though, two weeks after receiving it, I wound up in twice as many tournament finals as I had in all my previous experience put together.
The bottom line is the game of whoever buys this book, reads it and works toward applying it will improve and they will have more fun. Regular use of the principles outlined in "How Not to Lose at Spades" will result in opponents bickering among themselves. A person may hear more 4 letter words from the opposition than they did before also; there is one word readers won't hear nearly as often in their minds ear previously....LOSE.
