Review: This book has step by step instructions on how to win at spades in various situations. If you thought you could use the same strategy every time, think again. This book is really easy to follow and you can read the whole thing or skip around to work on the areas that you need to improve. The Authors sense of humor will keep you reading. It mostly covers internet spades but can be useful in "live" spades as well. I read it more than once and my game has really improved. If you read this book you will win at more spades games. Review: Strichman's book on Spades is the best book on any card game that I have ever read. As a long time spades and bridge player, I certainly have read many books on playing cards - this is the best. The writing is straight forward and crystal clear. In every instance, you understand the situation, the problem, the right line of attack, how to recognize it, and most importantly, why the stated approach is right. The book is loaded with examples that help make each important point in the book. These really help to clarify and drive home each lesson. The breadth covered is great. Just about every kind of situation is covered and these are logically grouped for easy understanding and reference. Besides the excellent and easy to understand insites, the book is also humerous. This makes it really fun to read while you are learning enough to put you at the top end of any set of competitors you might face. Buying this book is a "no brainer".

Summary: How Not to Lose at Spades
Review: Galt has done a tremendous job of presenting strategies for both the novice and the experienced player. You could read it a dozen times and learn something with each endeavor. Now, if only I could figure out how to remember each and everything he tells us to do. I have been so impressed with his book that I have bought additional copies to send to friends who are also spades players. In their cards of thanks, each one has complimented him on his wealth of information.

Review: I bought this book a few months back. I love it. I have read it cover to cover and still reference it. John gives insights that will help a good player be a better spades player. Its appraoch not only tells how but tells why using a risk/reward system of decision making will help you and your partner become better players. It is very straight forward and uses common sense techniques to help protect your team against spades disaster. Its based on statistics and probability, but is so well written, the reader doesn't realize this. There is no doubt in my mind that the book has improved my game.

Review: If you love to play spades, on line or with real-life cards, then you know that the key to having fun is winning. It can be very difficult to cross the line that separates an advanced player from the rest. Wouldn't you like to feel you can win any game you play, regardless of the level of competition? This book prepares you to be an advanced player by making you think in different situations before the answer is given. This book teaches you how to think "spades", and teaches you proper methods on how to play the odds. If you are a beginner or intermediate player, this book will help you move toward being an advanced player much faster than you will on your own. If you are an advanced player you will find many useful tactics and strategies that will improve your game even more. He gives of his knowledge and study of the game, and uses his experience in teaching to help you actually "learn" what is taught. There are topics addressed in such a way that you will wonder why it was so hard before. What I like best, which even the most advanced player will appreciate, is the way he teaches you to bid to stay flexible, and bid to win. In certain situations, he actually shows you how it is possible to guarantee victory just by your bid, even if you get set. If you play spades and don't mind losing, then you probably don't need this book. But, if you want to win, and truly have fun at spades, this book will help you win much more than you lose. Spades theory is fairly consistent because it is based on statistics and playing the odds. I have read other books that deal in some of the same topics, and other topics as well, that use these same principles. One of these books that has been around a lot longer and is written by respected author Joe Andrews is titled "Win at Spades, advanced play and strategy." This would be a good read after you've finished Mr. Strichman's book. There are others out there who have a spades book, or those who have friends who have a spades book, who try to convince you that Jack's book is worthless. That is a lie, and I might add, one that can be seen through easily. As a matter of fact, this other author with a new book uses tactics and strategies from Jack's book and claims to be the first to print them. Card theory is pretty universal, and all advanced players use basically the same premise to decide what to bid and play. It's the teaching method that varies, and the chosen topics. Also, there are those who claim to be National Champions who say this book is full of errors. The fact is that these same players use the strategies found in this book, in one form or another, or they wouldn't be winning. I am a member of United Spaders of America. I have my own Spades web site to help beginners along. I have won nearly 100 Spades tournaments at the most respected Spades web site on the Internet, including many Tournament of Champions. I have been studying and playing Spades for over 25 years now, trust me, the tactics and strategies in this book will help you win. They are the kind of strategies that are easily understood and implemented into your game. Every unbiased reader I've spoken to has nothing but good things to say about this book and how this book helped improve their game. It was because of the overwhelming praise I heard that I bought my copy. The bottom line is that this book has helped many, many people win a higher percentage of the time, and it will help you too.

Review: You can read other books on Spades, and you will learn the rules of the game and tips on how to play. But if you want to learn the strategies behind the great plays that win games. . .you will have to read THIS book. Mr. Strichman is a "spades" genius. His easy-to-read book covers every aspect of the game. If I had been playing spades all my life, I still would not have picked up all the concepts Mr. Strichman presents. Thanks to his intruction, I now rarely lose a game. Mr. Strichman delivers what the title of his book promises!
