Rating: Summary: excellent brutally honest book Review: excellent reading...captures the true feelings of the sex drugs and rock n roll scene
Rating: Summary: I'm afraid it put me to sleep....twice! Review: I've read it, but it was a struggle. Everything that has happened to this man was somebody else's fault....his mother, his father, women, Three Dog Night! My father always told me that the road to hell is paved with excuses and Chuck Negron is the "king" of excuses. If everything was as great and wonderful as we're being told, there wouldn't be any need to trash former bandmates and friends.
Rating: Summary: Best book I have ever read!! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read! Three Dog Nightmare really opened my eyes about the realities of drugs. Drugs are a big thing in my generation, so reading the true accounts of a former addict made me think twice about experimenting with them. This a book everyone should read.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books I've read. Review: When I ordered this book, I couldn't wait to get it. After it arrived, I started to read it, and i couldn't put it down. I have always been a big fan of Chuck's and thought he was the voice behind Three Dog Night. I am so proud of him for making his way back. Robin is such a great person for standing by him and they have such a beautiful daughter. Thanks again, Chuck for such a great book.
Rating: Summary: A STORY OF HOPE AND REDEMPTION Review: Wow. I received Chuck Negron's book yesterday and just finished it a few minutes ago. What a story of the redemptive power of the spirit. Who would have ever thought, after 20-plus years of hardcore drug addiction, that an individual could finally break free? This book should be placed along the bookshelf next to all of the recovery classics. This book should be required reading in early high school. If the brutal honesty of Chuck Negron and his experiences isn't enough for a teenager to run away from the lie of drugs, then nothing is...Chuck Negron has told his story and in the process has made me more empathetic towards the "junkie, the addict", because society rarely shows the human side of the addiction. Who can judge any "junkie" now, knowing that a good man was overtaken by drugs and made some terrible choices. This book will literally tear away any naivate' that one may have about drug abuse. For every Chuck Negron there are thousands dead. Way to go, Chuck. Welcome back, friend.
Rating: Summary: Can't-put-it-down reading; riveting; shocking; yet hopeful Review: Three Dog Night provided the soundtrack to my youth. When I saw them during a live performance in St. Louis in the mid '80s, I took one look at Chuck Negron and knew he was wasted - yet he still put on a pretty good show. Over a decade later, now I know the story. This book kept me riveted through the wee hours of the a.m. Even though I knew the ending provided a glimpse of a man brought back from the abyss, the story-telling of his struggle to recover was something I couldn't put down. The tragedy of his wasted talent, and the triumph of his rebuilding career, are the stuff that fictional rags-to-riches-to-rags stories are made of - but this is all true!
Rating: Summary: riviting, compelling, and unbelievable Review: It's hard to believe that he survived to sing another day. The other reviews don't give adequate credit to Robin, his current wife. Chuck gives her and the others who stood by him a great deal of credit for his eventual recovery. I had trouble putting the book down. Chuck went from being a phenomenal success to a miserable human being who neglected his family and friends. This book tells it all and in the end inspires with the success story of recovery. If you were or are a Three Dog Night fan or if you want to read a great human interest story, don't miss this book.
Rating: Summary: A Meaningful, Uplifting Reading Review: Three Dog Nightmare is a wonderfully written biography about the road back to the world of the living. Chuck Negron begins his first chapter with the words "I should be dead". Truly, it's a miracle that he isn't. Not only is this an inspirational story of recovery, but it is of historical significance as it reveals both the glorious and the dark sides of Rock and Roll in the '60's: the agents, management, other band members, other recording artists, others who struggled ... others who did not survive. It's a story of how addiction destroys the self and those around the addict. It's a story of those who had to let go of Chuck Negron, to turn away for their own good, and those who (contrary to what most co-dependency experts would recommend) kept taking him back, praying for the "light to come on" for their loved one. And in the end, it was Chuck himself who had to ask for the "light". He asked and the strength was given to him. It is a meaningful, uplifting reading for anyone.
Rating: Summary: What a comeback!!! Review: I buy alot of books and I seldom finish them but I couldn't stop reading this one. All I could think of was the hell this man was going through during all of those concerts I saw in the 60's and 70's and the courage it took to write this book telling all. I applaud him.
Rating: Summary: L'Chaim Review: a good, decent person who, by totally ,honestly and publicly exposing his entire being has recaptured his life. a wonderful book
