Summary: Amazing, Uplifting, Too Honest?
Review: I like this book a lot, as I used to like Three Dog Night's (TDN) music when I was in high school. It is a very thorough, gutsy, honest expose' by Chuck Negron, one of the original singers in the band, and the lead on the unforgettable "Joy to the World." The book depicts the author's life from birth through an incredible life of basketball, then rock music, stardom, during which he became addicted to sundry drugs. The whole sordid tale of Negron's life as a washed up heroin junkie is laid bare here with total candor. His drug problems cost him several marriages, millions of dollars, his sanity, and many others things detailed in the book. Negron's ability to "come clean" with all the ups and downs of his life (and the lives of others he hurt, even ruined) is extraordinary.

However, one negative side of the book to me is Negron's seeming compulsion/addiction to tell it like it is/was, at times tactlessly. For example, I think he could have lessened some of the harser criticisms of the other 2 singers in TDN.

Negron's story of being redeemed by God, as he names It seems miraculous, and the singer has certainly tried hard to make amends for his past sins.

Summary: Chuck Is An Inspiration
Review: As other readers have said, you can't put this book down. It's a lot of the missing pieces of the Three Dog Night story. The ups and downs in the life of a Rock n' Roll icon. This is a Three Dog Night fans' "Ultimate story of Sex, Drugs, & Rock n' Roll". Excellent pictures, too! Definitely read this one!

Summary: A must have book.
Review: A very honest and compelling account of the world of rock and roll by one of the greatest voices in rock and roll.

Summary: Underlining Theme
Review: I was inspired to write this review after "popping in" a TDN tape and driving to the grocery store. I have read this book and read this book and read this book. I would certainly recommend it !! It is a chronicle of one of the most successful groups of the late 60's and early 70's, you know the decadent flower child, drug taking, Anti-Vietnam protest years. The book does a good job of describing the excesses of the period, The money, fame, and lifestyle of the successful rock groups of the era. In great detail it describes the "plunge into hell" that drug addiction can lead to. On this front the book does a good job and contributes a great deal to inform a younger generation about the pitfalls of drug usage. The writing style of the "ghost-writer" Chris Blatchford is captivating.

There is a secondary theme though to this book that was more provocative to me. That this great music group after all of the trials and tribulations could not reunite because of ego !! That a younger generation would never experience a "Real" Three Dog Night concert because of ego is as much a tradegy as the pain and suffering caused and endured by drug addiction

Summary: A Real Triumphant Story
Review: Being a big TDN fan, I was real surprised to learn all about the hard times of the band, especially Chuck. His story is told honestly and is heart-breaking, but a success with recovery in the end. I highly recommend this book to any TDN fan and for an educational look at what drugs can really do to a persons life.

Summary: Powerful
Review: This book was recommended to me and I am so glad I got it. Mr. Negron tells his story with humor and honesty. It gives a look not only at his own personal struggle with drugs but how it affected his family and friends. It is not written with a 'poor me' attitude but Mr. Negron takes responsiblily for his actions and covers some hard ground. He went from an innocent honest kid to a hard core junkie in a world where drug use was accepted and to some degree expected. I will be passing this book on to others. Thanks to Mr. Negron for sharing his story.

Summary: Put You To Sleep????
Review: To the reviewer from Texas. You must not like Chuck. His book is so well written and doesn't trash anyone. He accepts the responsibility for his own actions and doesn't blame others as you say he does. Not like an ex band mate of his who trashed women every chance he got. I like both books from the former TDNers and Chuck's gives a ray of hope that we can all overcome whatever adversity we face.

Summary: I could not put this book down.
Review: This is such an honest look at drug addition, fame, and what a lot of money can do. Mr. Negron tells the truth about the ugly life of a drug addict and his unbelievable fame. It is also very uplifting in the fact that he has turned his life around and is now helping others. I saw him in person in 1998 and he is an unbelievable singer.

Summary: Amazing story, that first mistake and much lost because of it
Review: Chuck Negron's story was incredible! I think that EVERY kid and their parent needs to read his story. He tells it like it is, no detail is passed over! He doesn't make it pretty, he is brutally honest AND takes responsibility for his actions. I believe that this book will bring those people who have been ununable to feel compassion towards addicts to really rethink their point of view. THIS COULD HAPPEN TO ANY OF US! The difference, not everyone makes it through to tell a story like this. We need more books like it! Does Oprah know about this book?

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A must read for anyone with an addiction past or present!
Review: I highly recommend this book. I found Mr. Negron's story to be both heartbreaking and healing all at the same time. I grew up listening to Three Dog Night on the radio. Who knew that Chuck Negron was in so much pain or so much trouble! This book tells the story of one man's triumph over an addiction that should have killed him. I highly recommend this book.
