Summary: Great Puzzle Entertainment
Review: ...There are four books of this type of puzzle put out by the Sunday Times.

I never thought I'd be interested in logic puzzles: pondering over where to put little "x"s in a grid just did not seem exciting at all. But I can't get enough of Paint by Numbers, even though putting little "x"s in a grid is what it amounts to! The puzzles in this book are gradually more difficult and you learn new techniques as you scribble away. And it's just plain fun to see what you're "drawing" become more clear as you figure out where to fill in.

This book is a reprint of a Japanese book, which means it has some pictures that I didn't recognize--cute cartoon characters and a kanji, among others. But this did not detract from my enjoyment, and I'm glad Games decided to include all 123 pictures in their edition!

What's missing in this book are the monster grids you sometimes see in "Games World of Puzzles" magazine--the 35x35s and larger. I hope that Games puts out a book of their own Paint by Numbers some day!

Take care, these puzzles are indeed addictive. You have been warned!

Review: An entire book of Paint by Numbers. A dream come true. Every time I get my Games magazine, i flip through it, looking for Paint by Numbers. Then came this book. I was obsessed. I felt guilty about all the beautiful summer days I was wasting, coloring in little squares to form patterns. Then, a miracle happened: I broke my toe, and had to spend a few days with my foot elevated. I no longer had to feel guilty about the pleasure of these puzzles. A great book!

Summary: Frighteningly addicting fun!
Review: Did you think Minesweeper on the computer was addicting? Paint By Numbers sports a similar concept, but you'll find the 124 puzzles in this book far more challenging and rewarding. The format may look daunting at first, but once you've done a puzzle or two it will become second nature. You'll be alarmed at the amount of time you'll fritter away doing these puzzles, but not before you've had tons of fun in the process. Here's a tip -- by a pad of engineering paper to transcribe the puzzles onto so you can reuse the book over and over again!

Summary: For Beginners or Expert Puzzlers
Review: Even though, I am a word puzzle lover by nature, there are a number of reasons why Paint by Numbers are my favorite puzzles:

1. Great for all ages. And these puzzles are great for improving your logic skills.

2. Language independent. Anybody from anywhere around the world can complete these puzzles.

3. They turn into a picture. This is a big factor. Unlike a crossword, where you feel satisfied for having solved it but done is done, each Paint by Numbers puzzle turns into a picture. It could be an animal, a person, or an entire scene. This book contains a little of everything, in fact.

This book of puzzles is great because there are many puzzles to keep you satisfied. A person who has never done a Paint by Numbers puzzle before can look at the diagrams to see how it's done (or read the instructions and tips provided in the book) and start immediately with an easy puzzle. The best part is, as the puzzles get bigger and more challenging, the pictures get better and better. There are some incredible pictures to be completed, and to me, they are art when they are done.

I recommend this book to anyone of any age. If you buy this book as a gift, a great present to accompany the book would be a mechanical pencil with a good, soft lead and a nice eraser.

Before you buy this book, you can take a look at this type of puzzle. One great website is that of Conceptis Puzzles at www.conceptispuzzles.com. Conceptis creates many of the picture-forming logic puzzles contained in Games Magazine, and at their website, you can download a few free weekly puzzles or play them online. (They are called Pic-a-Pix puzzles at the Conceptis website.)

After you've visited this website, I'm sure you'll be as addicted as I am. I have owned this particular book of Paint by Numbers for about three years now, and have shown it to quite a few people. They in turn are now as addicted as I am! Really, this is a great collection of puzzles, and I suggest you give them a try. Have fun!

Summary: This is the best puzzle book on the market.
Review: I am now ordering this book for the third time. I can't go back to ordinary logic puzzles, though I try, from time to time. I wish the creators of this book would publish volume two.

Summary: Engaging mindplay
Review: I don't remember when the last time I had so much fun with mindplay. Unlike other puzzle games, the games presented in this book are challenging without being painfully difficult. They are a great way to burn that hour waiting in the doctor's office, or in your morning commute (assuming you have a seat), or during a layover at the airport. You'll end up wishing that you had more time to wait, so you could have more time to do more of these puzzles. Great mind candy and intellectual stimulants, with no nasty side effects (except the pencil lead smudges that tend to get everywhere while completing the puzzles in this book).

Summary: I bought it twice!
Review: I first bought this book a couple of years ago and loved it. In fact, last year I bought another copy and did them again. I wish there was another book. Does anyone know of any others?

Summary: I could paint by numbers with Tetsuya Nishio forever!
Review: I have gone through three pencils working this puzzle book out to its fullest. I am on puzzle number 120 and am running out and wish I had 120 more! This book not only contains stimulating puzzles to work on but also has an extensive area in the beginning which teaches you the method you need to solve all the delightful picture puzzles included thereafter. Then, there are blank grids for you to try your hand at inventing your own designs for someone else to solve. Hours and hours of fun.
