Rating: Summary: VERY DECENT BOOK Review: This book was a good source for information on the life and death of Aaliyah. Farley does a good job at making the book easy reading. With roughly 200 pages he gets the point out there. There is new information and old information in the book that a true Aaliyah fan would love to have. Its a great buy for the quality and cost.
Rating: Summary: Gives a bit more insight; helps with the healing process Review: I read this in one day; it's an easy read, and still feeling the loss over Aaliyah that I do, I had no desire to put it down. Farley (obviously being a TIME writer) does a very nice job here. He gives background, not just on Aaliyah but on a good deal of music history that influenced Aaliyah and her generation. There is not a great deal in here that fans have not read in newspapers or heard on MTV and the like, but what Farley does do is offer a point for fans to begin healing. Farley offers at a point in the book, Why Aaliyah? What is the meaning behind it? I honed in on this because I can't count how many times I questioned God on this. He writes, "What is the answer to the riddle of tragedy... Simply by caring, by connecting emotionally to [this] event we give [it] meaning. In other words, the search for meaning itself can be meaningless. We create the meaning ourselves; what we take from such experiences is entirely in our own hands." Farley clearly had a deep respect and like for Aaliyah and it shows. This is a very intelligently and thoughtfully written piece. I did learn a few new things, which I was happy about. Aaliyah, as Farley states, will never become a has-been, some aging soul star doing jigs onstage with the likes of a Justin Timberlake type. (I like Timberlake, but the point is well made.) Aaliyah is forever perfect; God never gave her an opportunity to mess up, to wrinkle, to be forgotten. He really exhalted her higher than she would have ever been down here on earth, where us carnal folk revel in the screw ups of those famous and privledged few. She is forever beautiful, talented and respected. Her spirit will always be gentle, her smile always bright. Farley, thanks for taking the time to do this, I appreciate it and I know Aaliyah's fans will too. It means a lot to know you cared enough to help us understand this wonderful young woman a little bit more. To Aaliyah's family, I am always praying for you! She was the best!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Aaliyah Book Review Review: This book is full of info of Aaliyah and basically if you wanna know about her this is the book for you. Aaliyah's tradegy was painful for us but we gained an angel through the process.:)
Rating: Summary: Aaliyah--More Than A Woman Review: I like this book and recommend it to everyone who wants to know more about the public Aaliyah. It is a smart book. It's a great keep sake book for her fans. Christopher Farley is a great writer and very much touched by Aaliyah as I am. I am disappointed that the book does not reveal much of the private Aaliyah. This is certainly no fault of Chris's. Aaliyah's family and close friends are just not readey to speak about her. However that's the person I want to learn about. Buy the book
Rating: Summary: really good book Review: BOOK REVIEWAaliyah: More Than A Woman is a book about the life of Aaliyah Dana Haughton. She was an R&B singer and an actress. At age six she got to experience her first acting role. The part was a small role in the musical production of Annie. At age ten Aaliyah appeared on Starsearch, but lost. Later in her life she would release three albums and two movies. This book tells many details about Aaliyah's music videos and her tragic death. Aaliyah's relationship with her boyfriend Damon Dash was glossed over and all former relationships were completely ignored. This was an easy book to read and understand. People could tell what the author was trying to get across. In certain area's the book jumped around, so it was not very organized. The strongest aspect was about how Aaliyah treated others and how others viewed her. The book talked about different people and events that did not pertain to her, so the book seemed to drift away from her. Aaliyah is my favorite actress/singer. I found it interesting to learn about her and her life, that is why I gave the book five stars. People who like Aaliyah or enjoy learning about how stars tend to live their lives, would probably enjoy this book. It tells about what stars experience and how Aaliyah's experiences were. The author's message was, no matter what kind of disaster occurs there is always away to put things back together. This is a good message because it helps people to live in the present not the past. The author was able to successfully send this.
Rating: Summary: A star that we will never forget Review: Aaliyah:More than a Women, written by Christopher John Farley, tells about the life of Aaliyah from when she first started acting and singing until her tragic death on August 25,2001.This book really tells the reader about Aaliyah's determination to become the best that she could be, and the way she strived to reach to the top .It explains about how she went to a school of the performing arts, and how she started acting when she was in the first grade in a production of Annie, and she would rehearse three hours a day, four days a week. Also the book tells how Aaliyah went to from a singer to an actress. The book also has quotes and stories, and memories about Aaliyah from many famous actors, producers, video and movie directors, music artists, and family members. I would recommend this book to Aaliyah fans. But I would also recommend this book to people who never thought about reading about Aaliyah because her life is really interesting. The only thing that I did not like about this book was that the author sometimes went off topic. The book is about Aaliyah, but he also started writing about other people, and subjects that didn't have anything to do with Aaliyah. But, besides that the book was pretty good.
