Summary: Billy Joel Complete review
Review: If youre looking for something just to give you an idea of how to play a lot of Billy Joel songs, this book can be helpful. It has just about every song in it up until the river of dreams. Songs like Prelude/Angry Young Man, and Shes Got a Way are nicely done in this book. But others only give you the piano parts to play the melody, so if you want to play the music instrumentally only, this is a good book. However, if youre like I am and you want to start playing the music and singing along with it(playing in a band), then you should look at the Billy Joel Keyboard book which has 14 or so songs which have the original transcripts, what you actually here him playing on the piano on the album. This is by far my favorite piano book that I own. It is however for the experienced piano players, because of its detail.

Summary: Finally, it really IS complete
Review: The first several editions of "Billy Joel Complete" were glaringly INCOMPLETE in that they didn't include sheet music for his first solo album, "Cold Spring Harbor." Now, granted - even Billy doesn't care much for the music on that album, but "Complete" was definitely a misnomer.Until this edition! Now, unfortunately, it's not really complete because "River of Dreams" was released afterwards; but good sheet music is available for that album as well. Now that the collection is comprehensive, my only real complaint is that the transcriptions don't include the solos and other idiosynchrocies, just the basics (though Billy's "basics" are often more complex than other pianists' solos). But other than that, they don't simplify at all - so if you're fairly serious about piano, this book will give you the roadmap you need to learn how to play Billy's songs.

Summary: Very thorough and seems quite accurate!
Review: This book has accurate arrangements of the recordings we all know and love. Lyrics are included, as well as instrumental passages. Very nice!

Summary: An Excellent Resource for Musicians
Review: This book is a must have for all popular pianists and musicians. Actually, it's even great for those musicians (like me) who prefer to play classical. A lot of the tunes have beautiful melodies that make excellent recital pieces (due to Billy Joel's classical background?). For example: Summer Highland Falls. Includes every song from Glass Houses to Storm Front. (1980-1989)
Billy Joel is a pretty wild musician; so, the music is definitely written for the advanced pianist. Anyone who can read music, however, can read the melody line and the chords. This is also an excellent source for "piano bar" music--it works very well as a fake book for people so inclined. For those musicians who love popular music, but cannot improvise or read guitar chords, this is the way to play popular music easily. The only downside to this book is that, for a few of the songs, there are complicated repeats and double codas. (I assume to conserve space?) Even so, most songs are well organized and easy to follow. And the ones with repeats are just confusing at first and easy to follow one you have played them through. This book is primarily a solo or solo with accompaniment. It is not the greatest book for playing in a band. The instrumental lines have been transcribed into the piano score. A better purchase for musicians playing in a band is The Billy Joel Keyboard Book: Authentic Transcriptions. This book is one of the wisest music purchases I have ever made. It is a great source for all the lyrics, and the melody line can be played on any instrument. It is well worth the investment for any musician!

Summary: Complete Vol1
Review: This has excellent piano transcriptions for a lot of Billy Joel songs. If you are a big Billy Joel fan and can play the piano I would definetly recommend this book. Also a good book to look at after volume 1 would be volume 2 or 3 or if you dont want to buy all of the books seperately you can buy Billy Joel Complete 1&2 which is one book but incudes all of the songs from those books. Either way this would be a great book to buy.
