Summary: The One They Are All Reading
Review: Smashing review of how the TV empire works. What in the world determines if a show can make it. Well described by a gifted author.

This is what many were reading at this years' Sundance Festival

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Great subject, poor execution
Review: THE SHOWRUNNERS is a scholarly work about the television business which will answer the questions of any reader with a fascination about the behind-the-scenes part of the entertainment industry. Author David Wild has done a detailed job of examining and explaining the inside story. For those of us not in "The Business," THE SHOWRUNNERS proves that the "talent," famous as some of these people become, are the least important part of creating a show. Only once that show is a hit does the talent take center stage.

This is an interesting book though, at some points, its very thoroughness makes for a certain tedious style of reading. Still, it is recommended reading for anyone with a serious interest in the business of television.

Summary: A fun look at TV
Review: Wild has written an enjoyable look at TV. I enjoyed reading it. Perhaps my expectations were too high. It doesn't do much besides skim the surface of his subjects. The depth and inside info of, say, Three Blind Mice, was missing. Wild gets a bit silly at times as well, but it is not all bad. Wild's book is far above and beyond most books written on TV these days and you will learn alot about the industry (and maybe miss Cupid again). Wild has done well, but I'm left wondering if he could have done a lot more.
