Summary: Sometimes Good, Sometimes Bad
Review: Due to the major discrepancies in reviews on this book, I decided to take a look at its contents for myself and be the judge of Jewel's poetry.

After reading just a handful of the beginning poems, I began to notice a trend... it seems her writing, perhaps 50-70% of what she turns out, at least, in this book, seems incomplete. Some of the ideas, I noted, were good solid -poetic- pieces that could be put to great use when used in conjuction with other such thoughts. Unfortunately, she seems to be in the habit of writing one-liners when it comes to poetry. I write these one-liners myself sometimes, but I just don't feel they're complete -enough- to warrant calling them a poem in its entirety.

But, on the other hand, I think Jewel shows amazing poetential for spinning *many* great poems, if maybe she would be a little more discriminating in her choice of poems. For example, "Awaken, Love" is one of the 'complete' poems, in my approximation, and conveys emotion! ! like some of the other poems fail to do. "Lovers for Lilly", "Home", and others like them are the ones I can truly say I enjoyed. But, some of them fail to get through to me... leaving me saying "And then what...?"

Summary: One Amazing Book...
Review: This is truly a great volume of poetry. I think that if you don't like this book, you don't like being human. In this she paints a vivid picture of humanity's weakness, strength, and power that can speak to everyone.

Summary: A real dynamic step towards knowing the truth about yourself
Review: The poems describe the heartache and happiness in one's life. It shows we are human and we all make mistakes that we can never explain to ourselves. She shows the true meaning of writing with feeling and emotions. She goes even deeper by writing about her one-on-one expierinces. She searches her soul for deeper meanings to express herself. She is very talented to have the gift to just write and make beautiful music with only her words.

Summary: Her talents just go on and on. . .
Review: I think this is one of the greatest books EVER to grace my shelf. First, I loved her singing (I even did a cover for one of her songs for a review show). I knew she wrote alot of her own lyrics, but this is even better! This girl is AWESOME. I am probably one of her biggest fans, and I wanna be just like her someday- just not blonde and a bit taller. BUY THIS BOOK!!! YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

Summary: Pretty bad.
Review: A person's poetry is something very personal, so I really don't want to bash this too hard. It reads like ok high school poetry that sometimes dips down to sappy, pretentious high school poetry. It's hard to compare this to another famous poet as it's not really on that level. If you're a Jewel fan and you're not into serious poetry, go for it. Otherwise I'd check out some "real" poetry.

Summary: Pop Junk
Review: This stuff is horrible. Here is a pop superstar that has cashed in and sold out for millions in publishing rights. The focus has shifted from quality to the author and who she is.

Summary: Superb
Review: I enjoyed this book tremendously. Jewel writes with such clarity and honesty. You don't have to be a fan of her singing to appreciate the depth and talent she possesses as a poet. It's not hard to see that poetry is her first love. I found myself unable to put the book down without reading it twice. Her poems paint vivid pictures of emotions ranging from passion to loss and longing. I've no doubt her words will stir intense emotion in even the most stoic of hearts.

Summary: Jewel at Her Best!
Review: Jewel is amazing! We all know she can sing, but she can also write poetry. Her poems of first love, her home in Alaska, passion, and much more, tell of things which make us human.Fans must have this book.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Her poems gracefully tell the gritty truth
Review: I loved this poetry book more than most modern-day poetry books. It was filled with poetry that reflects everyday experiences for the everyday person, like myself, and humorous poems which were a relief to the more solemn type of poetry of which I usually find. I read this book cover to cover in one day. I enjoyed every poem, particularly Father of a Deaf Girl.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent,just like her music!
Review: Jewel's poetry can touch the depth's of even the darkest soul. I have found very few poets who can move me, but there is something so personal and intimate about her writing style that hits me at that spot and makes me think. She is so fabulous!
