Rating: Summary: I never liked poetry until now. Review: I always said I hated reading poetry, but when I saw Jewel's book at the book store, I picked it up and flipped through. Now and friend and I are highlighting our favorite lines and comparing notes. It's great. I love her style of writing, like her songs.
Rating: Summary: Great!I have never read anything so moving and intellgent! Review: Jewel is smart, Beautiful, a great poet and a awesome singer! I hope she does more books and/or cd's!Her words move me! Both her books and music has helped me get trough tough things in every day life! When ever I think the world might end or something, I slip in her cd and listen to the words or read aloud the words in the book, and they help me understand things, now i know for sure, Most things happen for a good reason! Jewel is awesome, and anyone who thinks different should get a life and get lost! P.S. I love you Jewel!
Rating: Summary: Typical of high school students Review: I've read a lot of HS student poetry, since I'm a HS English and lit teacher, and this ranks at about what many of the children (particularly girls) are doing. It speaks to fellow teens, but it's hardly serious work. It saddens me that children I know who are even more gifted could never get an agents attention, just because they lack the spotlight of fame.
Rating: Summary: Hmmm... Review: I think that this was a very good book, but some of her writings weren't anything but thoughts that could have been used elsewhere. Some of the poems were left to soon and some don't display very good taste in wording. But, they were thoughts, bravely put out there for the people of America to read. All in all, It was a exceptional book.
Rating: Summary: Personally, the most powerful poetry I've ever read! Review: I have read much poetry, but never have I read such powerful pieces of literature than in this great and moving book. I can sense so much feeling and compassion through her writing it touches me to even think about her words. Her voice is heard through her writitng and that is the grandest example of a shining spirit and an awesome soul.
Rating: Summary: Naysayers are WRONG! Review: I just want to say, for the people who scoff at this book's power, that I gave this book to my brother, who had his foot cut off at work and then got a serious infection and later died at the hospital because the doctors didn't know their fronts from rears, that I gave him this book while he was supposed to be recuperating but was really dying and he said it helped him in what was one of the worst times of his life. And THAT means everything.
Rating: Summary: You must read it ! Review: This is a great book, that I have read over and over and over .... A lot of these poems are very honest and remind you of feelings you have sometimes tried to hide even from yourself. But don't listen to me ... read it and find out yourself!
Rating: Summary: To all the negative critics.... Review: Poetry is what you make of it. I for one enjoyed this book. It was self-revealing and Jewel was very courageous for publishing her feelings for all the world to read. It makes me sick to read comments suggesting that this book's popularity stems from the opinions of 14 year olds. So what if it does? Jewel's most memorable and familiar experiences are from when she was a young girl. Believe it or not, 14 year olds face a lot of new pressures these days....a lot more than I did at that age. By insulting this book, you are telling young adults that it's not okay to be unsure or incomplete in your thoughts and feelings. The best therapy for hardship and confusion is self discovery...poetry and journaling are wonderful ways to accomplish this. Jewel is allowing the world to read poetry in a way that the english majors aren't used to. If poets were all like Dickinson or Browning, our literature would be boring.
Rating: Summary: A first-class, "A+" work of art Review: Jewel Kilcher's first book of poetry, "A Night Without Armor," is a real showcase for her poetic talent. She realy knows how to capture the reader's imagination and paints for him a picture of her life from her point of view. And what a picture it is!
Rating: Summary: A great book of poems Review: A Night Without Armor was a touching book. It was wonderful because these are her deepest thoughts that she is sharing with the world. I really hope she decides to publish another book. This book is a total must have!!!
