Rating: Summary: How could anyone not love this book? Review: Jewel is a terrific singer...and a terrific poet. She is definitely a STAR!! How could anyone not love her book of poetry?! Once again I say that she is definitely a STAR!!
Rating: Summary: P-U!! Review: Man, but this is truly bad. Wise investment by the publishing company though- they've certainly picked plenty of pockets with this one. Can't wait for the follow up! Buy Beau Sia's book instead- at least it's funny and you won't get diabetes from reading it.
Rating: Summary: She's not telling the truth Review: Apparently, honesty and poetry don't mix. She has neglected any mention of her early teenage years and the summer she lived with Leroy, her pimp. Maybe she's blocking it out, maybe she's mixing metaphors.I admire courage and truth, that's all.
Rating: Summary: This book of poetry was great! Review: I really wanted to read A Night Without Armor by Jewel, so I went out and bought it. I enjoyed it mainly because I could relate to her poems and they seemed real. For example Too Many NightsIt has been too many nights of being withto be suddenly withoutEveryone who reads this can get something different and relate it differently to their own life. Many of her poems say exactly what I feel in my head and aren't able to get down on paper and she does that wonderfully. I don't think that everyone would like this book, because it's not for everyone. It's for the kind of people who are able to deal with their emotions and get them down on paper. It is somewhat of a soothing book. It lets you know that you aren't the only one who feels a certain way. There are others who feel the same. I think her poetry and her music are very similar. They both talk about life, and the struggles one goes through. I can almost her the music playing in the background when I read some of her poems. Such as the poem Wild HorseI'd like to call you my wild horseand fel you silver sageI'd like to paint my poemswith desert tongued clayacross your backand ride you savagelyas the sweet and southern windthrough a green and wild KentuckyI'd like to make you my secret sunblazing dark and red in the orchardsand I would steal awayto watch the way your silver belly bendsand bows beneath meI'd make you my wingsin the foothills of Montanamy lover in the oceans of the worldI'd make you my many calico chiildrenand scatter youacrossthe green memories of homeI'd be your hungry Valleyand sow your golden fileds of wheatin my wombI would really like to read more of her writings, and hopefully in the near future she'll publish more poems or other kind of writings.
Rating: Summary: critizism without understanding Review: First, i'd like to say that Jewel is a gifted young woman. Not only does she have a beautiful voice that is absolutely mesmerizing, she seems to be a great person inside, which she reveals in her poems. I find it ironic that people can read someone's poems, someone's feelings, and someone's life, and comment on it like it as if it were a new detergent they used on their clothes. Jewel obviosly knew she was exposing herself to everyone for their comments, by naming the title of her book "A Night Without Armor", but, to be as harsh as saying "it sucked" or "it was boring" is ludicris. I guess I just don't understand how someone can critize something so personal. The worst thing is to express yourself to someone, wanting them to understand your feeling so bad, and have them look at you with a blank stare, not knowing why you almost cried writing it; not knowing the many stories behind it. I guess I'll never understand that. But, Jewel, if your out there, I understand.
Rating: Summary: a perfect book to open one's eyes to poetry Review: I love her way of making mistakes obvious to the world, yet still staying to herself and not worrying about critical responses to her poetry.
Rating: Summary: WONDERFULY FILLED W/ SPIRIT AND SOUL Review: JEWEL'S BOOK AND SONGS ARE SO WONDERFUL. SHE PUTS HER WHOLE SPIRIT AND SOUL INTO HER SINGING AND WRITING. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF ITS JOURNALISTIC OR JUST CREATIVITY IT COMES FROM THE HEART AND EXPRESSES HER FEELINGS. THAT IS WHAT TRUE POETRY IS, IT DOESN'T HAVE TO RHYME OR EVEN MAKE SENSE TO OTHER PEOPLE AS LONG AS IT MAKES SENSE TO THE PERSON WHO WROTE IT. FOR SOME PEOPLE THEY HAVE NO OTHER WAY TO EXPRESS THEIR FEELINGS EXCEPT THROUGH POETRY AND HALF THE TIME IT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE EXCEPT TO THAT PERSON AND THAT SOME TIMES IS WHAT MAKES POETRY WONDERFULLY DEEP AND MEANINGFULL AND MYSTERIOUS. BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHATS GOING ON IN THAT PERSONS MIND OR THEIR HEART AND IT LETS YOU HAVE A LITTLE GLIMPSE OF THE INSIDE.
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: I liked this book. It made me cry. I don't understand how Jewel could not be a great poet. She must be as good as all those other poets because she pours her soul into her art. And isn't that what poetry is about? To speak to another as it as speaked to me? Your lusers! Peace
Rating: Summary: Oh my God! This is ART! Review: Oh my god! This book should be taught in all English classes everywhere. It opened me up to a whole world of art. I never liked poetry before this, (Robert Frost - Yuk! Oh my god. who cares what path you took? Why the hell as you walking in the woods anyway?) but now I realize that it's not my fault because good poetry is out there. Jewel speaks to MY generation, and all you stuffy English teachers can't understand her because she's too deep. I'm going to get everyone I know to read this books (and listen to Jewel's also profound album about love and loving yourself) and it will change thier life! Do not make Jewel's feelings hurt cause this book made me cry and laugh and learn! It spoke to me, not as an english teacher would, but as a real living human being who understands life would! And all you jerks who are criticizing her need to get a life! I love you Jewel!!! P.S. Who is this Yeats person people keep talking about?
Rating: Summary: A must read book!! Review: The singer, songwriter,POET - - -I never knew this young woman to have SO much inside her! Highly recommended to all ages!
