Rating: Summary: This book is beautiful, powerful Review: I think this is the most beautiful book of poetry that I have ever read. Her poetry style is fresh and honest. She paints pictures with words in a very unique and artful way. I never listened to Jewel's music when I bought her book -- I picked it up in a store and read "the slow migration of glaciers..." and I was hooked. The beauty of the Alaskan wilderness seemed to reach out of these pages and wrap me in peace. Reading about every-day experiences is healing, and I for one am very grateful this book was written.
Rating: Summary: have an open mind & you may find you like it. worth a chance Review: i was moved to write this after reading some of the negative comments being left. i have both the book and cd and enjoy them both imensely. i think her images of nature are wonderful. so what if it doesnt rhyme or have a specific meter, haven't we figured out by now that while these may be aspects of poetry they do not define it. poetry is an attempt to move the soul. remember kerouac, ginsberg, bukowski, corso, and all the rest of the jazz/beat poets, they were all about defying our perceptions of how things are supose to be and discovering how things can be. now granted she is not in the same class as any of those poets but she treads the ground that they paved. so to all of those who think poetry must be confined to a certain style or structure, i say open up your mind and look up the word poem in the dictionary. to those wannabe poets who are jealous because she gets a book deal because she's a celebrity and they didn't, i say get over it. and finaly to those who just don't like it, all i can is i did.
Rating: Summary: A very good book Review: I thought it was a very good book, I couldn't put it down.

Rating: Summary: what has poetry done to deserve this? Review: I can understand why the publishers wanted to publish this book -- what a cash cow! But this book is an insult to poetry and to all the good writers out there who can't get their poems published. Don't buy this book and support drivel... or if you must support drivel, support funny drivel like Beau Sia's parody book called "A Night Without Armor II: The Revenge." The fact that Jewel is making money off her "writing" is sad. I do wish she would get over herself.
Rating: Summary: All that glitters is not Jewel Review: The best page of this book is the cover. Jewel is hot, hot, hot. But her poetry is not, not, not. Do what I wish I had done: download the picture and buy a different book.
Rating: Summary: I liked it Review: I think this is a good poetry book and anyone who likes Jewel's music will probably enjoy this. O.K. so she's not a professional poet, but she's honest and she's talented. Some of the poems are a little corny, but others are really good. I think this book shows more of Jewel than any interview could. So if you want to know more about her, read it.
Rating: Summary: This is poetry? Review: Unfortunateley this is what passes as poetry today! As an English Literature major I was looking forward to reading a book of contemporary poetry that would inspire me. Instead what I found are verses that could hardly be called poems. The rhymes are childish and the phrasing forced. The ideas presented are worn and repeated. Jewel does not even offer a new interpretation on the issues she adresses. At best this is a rough collection of ideas for poems (as presented by someone who does not know what poetry is). Save your money and buy a real book of poetry.
Rating: Summary: A Girl Without Talent Review: How low can you go? According to Jewel, pretty low. This stuff sounds less like poetry and more like someone babbling to themeslf about their own greatness!!!! This actually offends me. I read tons of poetry and I can guarentee that Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost are ROLLING in their graves over this. Jewel already thinks she's the greatest singer known to mankind - now she's a poet too????? She is talentless. All she has is an angle. And I'm 13, so cut all this crud about only old people hating her!!! (And if I hear "Hands" one more time I will commit justifiuable homicide!!!!!)
Rating: Summary: Five Stars for the Sincerity Review: I have to say that I'm a bit put off by the negative comments put towards this book. True, it probably had no chance at publishing if it were written by a "commoner", but that's not the issue. "A Night Without Armor" is supposed to be about speaking your heart and being sincere in all that you do. I am a poet myself and I find the content of these works to be far more valuable than the choppy rythm or lack of rhyme scheme. Maybe one day everyone might realize that it truly is the mundane experiences that make every person a unique human being. Without that, aren't we just the compilation of all that is taught to us?
