Rating: Summary: Sort Of Like A Biography Review: To tell the truth, I don't really understand poetry, but I bought this book because I thought it would help me understand her songs better. Some of the poems are really hard to understand (could it be because I'm Japanese?) but there are some that I liked. Oh yeah, but one question. Is her father really 57 years older than her?
Rating: Summary: AIN'T SO BAD, AIN'T THE WORLD Review: I'm glad if you like this book. I thought some of the poems were good, and that they even provided links to other writers whom I really admire, like Bukowski. If you don't like the book, that's OK, too. There's enough poetry on Amazon.com for everyone to buy.
Rating: Summary: This book is horrible Review: I like breasts as much as the next guy, but even hundreds of breast references cannot save this horrible collection of "poetry." I am sure many real poets are offended by Jewel's childish ramblings.
Rating: Summary: worth a read Review: Some of the other reviewers were quick to bash Jewel's poetic abilities. But just as people appreciate different sorts of music, and different sorts of film, people can have vastly different tastes in poetry and literature or fiction.I applaud Jewel for putting herself out there. And yes, I liked many of the poems in the book. There's nothing wrong with disliking her work. I can respect those who feel that way. However I think that those individuals should have been a little less condescending. I am not a culture snob-- I wouldn't presume to tell anyone else that what they enjoy reading is trash if it works for them. What is good poetry anyway? Really? Is it something so obscure that 98% of the population can't understand it or wouldn't spend (waste?) their time trying to? Is it something that only intellectuals can understand? Who are you comparing her to -- and using what standards? Whose standards? This is not to say that Jewel is on his level, but don't forget that Melville was dismissed as a mediocre writer in his day. Thus, opinions on what is good and bad art are temporal. Some people enjoy Shakespeare and Yeats -- others prefer spoken word and poetry slams. I enjoy both. I think that the most important measure of art is how and if it affects those who view/read/hear it. It is easy to say that her work is horrible. But, could any of you do a better job? And even if you thought that you could, would you be brave enough to share it with the world?
Rating: Summary: Jewel's "A Night without Armor" Review: This book is a great epic though the life of a young and graceful singer and poet. Many people bash it for its straight forward way of writing. Her talking about breasts isn't exactly nice but the fact that some people say "how gross" is just because they won't addmite is a great way of getting every feeling she has across. An For a moment I would like to ask way all the people that bash her; Why didn't you put your e-mail address? is it because you were afraid that people who actually like straight forward poetry would e-mail you and give you a piece of there mind, because if that is the case this isn't so. Because we are not as immature as you people are. No affence but if you don't like something what is the point of complaining it won't change a thing. This book was a excellent as any other book of poetry I have ever read, if not, even better. Thank you for your time in reading me STRAIGHT FOWARD feelings. And one last thing for all you poeple who hate the kind of text or poetry with breasts or what have you here. BREASTS! Now you can hate my feelings. ~Emily
Rating: Summary: It Was the Best Book of Poetry a teen Could Have! Review: It helps teens think and also remeber that evryone goes though the same things. Also It has a beauty for adults to set free about them selves. ~Wchschic :)
Rating: Summary: Bad stuff, man Review: This is bad. Really really horrible. I can't even call it poetry. Let's call it rubbish.
Rating: Summary: Who will save your soul, Jewel? Review: I'm in my forties and I've been a huge Jewel fan since I first saw the little vixen belt out her "Who will save your soul" ditty. Man, this chick was hot and I was hooked. She has a voice and the tune had a lot of folk rock merit. The album, "Pieces of you" was great, . It was drippy in parts but great. I've watched as Jewel has gone from promising artist to huge, swelled headed, white trash poetry-ho. It started with those Jewel interviews. You could tell she seemed to think she was talking about some great artist in those tales about Alaska and the abuse she received in (Hawaii?). Now we know why she was being abused. This girl is just nauseatingly pretentious. She's still hot in an odd, crooked toothed, bent nosed sort of way. Jewel is still a great songwriter and singer. I don't have her latest CD and I don't like her latest video but I'm hoping she can pull herself together. Give up the pretensious poetry and go back to songs like who can save your soul. You're a hottie with a voice and the ability to make hits. Leave literature to the eggheads. You're just making a fool of yourself, babe.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I like this book because it expresses how she felt during the hard times in her life. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Touching Review: Very inspirational. Really got me thinking about the real world, also made me realize that I wasn't the only one who felt alone once in awhile.
