Summary: Ewwwwwwww.
Review: If your sixteen, wear cute tank tops and wide leg jeans, and write bad teenaged love poetry, which if you're considering buying this you probably are, you're beyond my reach. Otherwise, please don't buy this horrible, horrible book.

Summary: sentimental portrait of feeling
Review: I've never heard of a singer named Jewel before I read the report on newspaper about this book, which reported this books includs three poems about Taipei. As I read quotation in this report, I was amazed that there could be a foreigner who come out my homeland then give me a different version of there. Especially in "Taipei 3", her subtle and kind observation of moist weather, people around the temple and what they are doing, makes me somewhat moved and feel romatic atmosphere of Taipei that I've never felt. Though her writing may be not good enough to be called poems and some of her poems seemd nothing stands for, but I still satisfied with reading some of them.

Summary: Poetaster Laureate
Review: I agree wholeheartedly with the last writer ("A Reader" from "A Place"). What must it be like to be a real poet watching this celebrity-penned koob climb the charts? Kids, pay attention: you're allowed to like this stuff if you want, "applaude" it if you must, but IT'S NOT POETRY. As a public service I will now name a few genuine poets whom you might check out: Elizabeth Bishop, John Berryman, William Butler Yeats, Gary Snyder, John Ashbery, Paul Muldoon, Seamus Heaney, Louise Gluck, Michael Ondaatje,C.K. Williams. Would somebody please explain to me why Jewel gets approx. 200 reviews on the amazon.com web page, and most of these people are virtually ignored?

Summary: Jewel is the worst pseudo-writer ever
Review: Let's face it-- anybody who thinks Jewel's poetry is good was either suffocated by his own umbilical cord during birth and sustained serious brain damage or has less education than the average middle school dropout.

Whoever wrote that review about the "deep, hidden meaning" of the "poems" is ostensibly a VERY funny guy [I pray it was really a joke].

I am very sorry that I had to give this trash a single star.

Summary: I hate this book and everything it stands for
Review: I cover this book up or turn it around backwards everytime I go into a bookstore because I can't stand to see Jewel's face on the same shelf with Yeats and Shelley.

Can you imagine how professional poets feel to see this dribble published and sell well, when here they've read and worked for years on their craft and still find the market for their work to be miniscule? One person said:"I believe her social status should have nothing to do with her writing talents." I agree. Her social status should have nothing to do with her writing talent, but obviously it DOES or this book would not be published. Jewel is published not because she is a fabulous writer or has anything interesting to say or even understands the basic craft of poetry, but simply because she is famous. This book is about publishers cashing in on her image of the deep and soulful country girl, an image created by the greeting card sentimentalities of her song lyrics and the media's constant piping about her down-to-earth childhood in Alaska.

Though I can't really blame the publishers for this, it makes me sad that young people like the ones on here might grow up thinking the this is what poetry is and never bothering to introduce themselves to real poetry...

Summary: worthy of criticism yet lacking deserved recognition
Review: I think this collection has been a grandiose area of conflict. Many are choosing to attack Jewel and her choice of writing style simply because they prefer a wordy work of art, when art needs not to be fancy to be enjoyable. In fact, I was quite offended by a recent review which stated that Jewel's work was silly and referred to it as "doggerels." I found this an unjust comment which exhibited this writers narrow range of understanding into young minds and also an inability appreciate a PERSON'S feelings rather than a "delusional pop star." I believe her social status should have nothing to do with her writing talents. Although, I do find much of both her music and poetry delightful. This is definately worth the time to read and I would recommend it to others. When some find it difficult to comprehend her meanings, please do not choose to use your extensive rhetoric to avoid the fact that you have a problem with Jewel and her fame instead of her literary ability. I welcome your comments. Thank you for reading my thoughts.

Summary: A Reflection of thought
Review: Many people would say that "A Night Without Armour" isn't poetry, and she should just stick to songwriting. I however: strongly disagree. This book was about her, what she went through as a child and her thoughts on certain subjects. This is a book that many of us can relate too. It talks about firsts loves, the thoughts of being pregnant, and divorce. It shares with us her ordeal as a child growing up. How can all of you sit and critique her life as bad poetry. Poetry has no good or bad, it is based on opinion. I dare all of you out there who say that her poetry is bad to write and publish a poem of your own, one that bares your soul to the world, and see if you can compete.

Summary: Musicless lyrics
Review: I understand that Jewel's lyrics and music do not move everyone. I, however, am one who LOVED Jewel's songs. A Night Without Armor offers the reader a more intimate and personal view than Jewel's songs do. Call it bad poetry if you like, but in my opinion the only bad poems are ones that aren't heartfelt. Jewel is on her way to becoming a lighthouse for the younger generations. the bottom line is: IF YOU LIKE HER LYRICS, YOU'LL LIKE HER BOOK.

Summary: From The Heart
Review: This collection of poems may not be the best I've ever read but, it does have one thing going for it. It speaks from the writer's heart to one's soul. It's about life. The fact that someone went to all the trouble to parody this collection tells me it's worth something. I hope Jewel has the courage to publish more of her work despite the critics.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I applaude Jewel for this one, it is great!!!!
Review: This book was great. She not only sings from the soul she also writes from it. I admit you have to have an open mind and a great understanding for poetry. Many of her poems come from deep in the soul. The poems have hidden meanings and that is what makes this collection great. For example:

"We are loved beyond our ability to comprehend"

To me this means that God loves us so much and not the puppy love that teenagers go through but real unconditional love that will never end (God won't "divorce us" because we do wrong he always loves us whether we are good or bad)

This also means to me that when you find that special someone they would give their life for you and that is hard to understand.

This example is perfect because it has two meanings earthly love and heavenly love.

This is why it takes a complex thinker to comprehend her poems

I would recommend this to everyone

Thank you for your time
