Summary: Underrated
Review: Jewel wrote a book of simple, straight-forward poems that seem to be getting a lot of bad reviews. I wonder why. The imagery is so richly detailed that I couldn't help buying it. Since most of these poems were written in her late youth, about experiences that most have not yet had at this age, I think the negative criticism I've read is overly harsh. Her words are honest, beautiful, and introspective, and they are reflective of her life. I doubt that the so-called better writers that reviewed this book have lived a life half as remarkable as hers or have written anything half as insightful.

Review: Hi Jewel, this is Poetry. I don't believe we've met

Summary: This was repulsive
Review: I have never been so insulted on both an intellectual and emotional level. What can I say, she has NO talent. I am fifteen years old and have written more profound and life-altering poems on my math homework, and I'm not getting paid for my thoughts on life. People are looking to her for an insight into the unknown we call life, and she throws back dribble. I am very offended as to the matter of this book. She has disappointed me to no end.

Summary: has great poems that teach many lessons and morals
Review: Jewel's book "A night without armor" is a great book for the inspiring poem writer. It has many poems that teach lessons on life, love, and many other situations you may come across.

Summary: 2 thumbs down
Review: Take Jewel's name off the cover and you'd assume the poems were written on a napkin by a drunk. They are creative, yes, but far from profound. Far more talent can be found among America's amature poets.

Summary: jewel's thoughts against her silence...
Review: jewel has creativity. though her music speaks volumes, these poems must have formed as mysteries in her mind long before she ever put pen to paper. this book for me shows tur poetic meaning, the type that comes from right inside of you, igniting your deeper fires, and bringing forward your source of words - your soul. though i understand people who cannot realte to this poetry, i must state that this poetry is not all for you to relate to. they are not your soul fires, they are jewel's. as paula coles, poet and musician, says, they are her "own creative interpretations". these poems are jewels thoughts against her silence, her mediations through her thoughts. the world has evolved more now that jewel's poetry has surfaced, and i pray that this "most honest and immediate art", this soul fire, has not yet burnt out. but there's not much chance of that from a poet who writes in the language of thought.

Summary: not worth the money--if you are serious about poetry
Review: "songs" broken into haphazard lines do not constitute "poetry"--it is apparant the publisher and Jewel are capitalizing on her success as a song writer/singer. What is missing in this book of "poems" is the altogether attention to craft and art. There is little, if any, attention paid to line breaks, to the integrity of the line as a unit, and to the common conventions which make up the foundations of a lyric or narrative poem.

Summary: Inspiring and wordly. Two thumbs up.
Review: Certainly not like the works of many poets but still an inspiring and beautiful book by one of the most talented artists I know. A must-read for poetry fans.

Summary: And I thought her song lyrics were awful!
Review: They made me giggle like a schoolgirl
