Rating: Summary: not very good. Review: Hmm! Looks like whoever was writing the code for this page forgot to add the tag to end the italics after "IP"! I'd do it here, but I know HTML doesn't show up in these reviews, so I guess I'll have to resign myself to it. Anyway, this really isn't a very good book. I mean, it has some good information, but it is kinda smug. I also really, really hate the intelligence-insulting "translations" of British phrases. Hello! Even if, unlike me, you're not a devoted anglophile, these should not give you to much trouble. Gah...One specific thing that bothered me was John Inman's disingenuous claims that his character wasn't meant to be gay. I mean really. Even if there weren't numerous blindingly obvious admonitions to such in many, many episodes, that woudl just be completely untrue. Come on, people. What is this, retrospective homophobia? Get real. Um...that's all.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful Book Review: I didn't know what to expect when I got this book....I was pleasantly surprised..it has priceless pictures of all the cast. It's a great memorial for cast members that are no longer with us.The book is very informative and answers just about any questions you may have had about the cast members and the show. Mrs. Slocum, Mr. Humpries, Mr. Peacock and all the others, I feel as though I know them personally now!! This is a must for any "Being Served?" fan.
Rating: Summary: Great campanion guide to the show Review: I purchased this book YEARS ago in the 90's! I still find myself enjoying the book today (2003)! It goes over the history of the show and even has a synopsis of every episode. It even gives a rating of each episode showing how funny each episode it. This truly is a treasure that you'll want on your coffee table. This is one of the funniest shows ever produced. The book even includes some juicy extras that we in the U.S. have been deprived of. The movie that was inspired by the show and the revival series that popped up many years later.

Rating: Summary: A curl up on the couch good read. Review: I was pleasantly surprised at this book. I thought that the quality of the photographs was lacking but the text more than made up for it. It was like getting a long letter from home catching you up on all your beloved friends and family.
Rating: Summary: A Very Good Book! Review: If you like Are You Being Served?, then this is the book for you. Good character section! A must read!
Rating: Summary: A Fine Companion To The TV Series Review: If, like me, you enjoy watching the AYBS episodes, you'll get plenty of use and enjoyment out of this book. You get stories and anecdotes about the show, from how the original idea was developed to how the episodes were taped to brief biographical sketches of the leading actors in the show. Best of all, there is a complete list of the episodes in chronological order, with a brief description of the plot, a list of the players, and a rating (4 stars is "super", 1 star is "not up to scratch"). The book even has an AYBS trivia quiz and a glossary of British expressions that might not be familiar to U.S. viewers. In short, this book gives fans just about all they could want short of more episodes, and all accompanied by lots of pictures. My only criticism is that biographies are lacking for some of the less familiar players: James Hayter (Mr. Tebbs), Milo Sperber (Mr. Grossman), Bennie Lee (Mr. Klein), Candy Davis (Miss Belfridge), Doremy Vernon (Canteen Manageress), and others. This is a very minor complaint, however. The fact is, if you watch this show, either on PBS or on your own videos or DVD, this book will add to the fun. No fan should be without it.
Rating: Summary: Very comperehensive. Perfect gift for anglotelephiles. Review: My sister gave me this book for my birthday. I thought I knew everything about "Are You Being Served?", as I have watched the show on UNC-TV for years and I have seen every episode at least 10 times over. Boy was I wrong.
