Summary: Mean spirited humor...
Review: ...and a SOMEWHAT, but not entirely accurate picture. There are many different types of Hollywood assistant jobs. They vary greatly in what they offer, who is able to get them, what can be gained or not gained from them.Glean what you can from this book, but there are many holes, and a certain amount of arrogance in the writing.

Summary: An accurate, yet funny guide for assistants
Review: As a former Hollywood assistant (I've moved up the ladder and am now an executive at a major production company), I'd say that this book gives a pretty accurate account of what you may endure as an assistant in this town. It certainly recalled many of the experiences that my friends and I had when we were starting out. Bill Robinson and Ceridwen Morris are well known in Hollywood circles, so it makes sense that their advice is dead-on. They are in this world and they know what they are talking about. If you're interested in working in the film or television industries, this book is certainly one of the sources you should check out in advance. It might scare you a bit, but so will working for some of these people in Hollywood! Best to be prepared. All in all, this book presents some very solid advice for prospective assistants. It's a fun read and I'd definitely recommend it.

Summary: SOME of it is accurate
Review: Book is lacking in many regards. Funny in some places, but overall lacking in the "humor" they are desperately trying to claim here and attmepting to sell themselves with. As with any other book written by a person who claims to have been in the trenches and is telling it like it is-- there will be others who know the truth about who those people really are, and where they are bluffing, which is the case with this book as well. Some good stuff is here in the book, but still, soft in many places.

Summary: A Career you want to leave as soon as possible
Review: I enjoy reading about the industry. This book is a cross between a "how-to" book and a book filled with industry anecdotes. This book gives great advice on how to perform in your job working for an egomaniac (they almost all are) and why you want to get out of that job as soon as possible. But it also provides quite a few hilarious stories that will have the normal office worker scratching their heads at the audacity of some of these bosses. Working in investment banking I've seen my share of egomaniacs but Hollywood is the place to be if you want to reach for the stars or meet some real asses. This book gives a good overview on what you can expect.

Since I'm not interested in an assistant's job, I was looking more for stories of the industry. This book satisfied that desire but with some down time as it educated the potential assistant. Overall, I'm pleased with the read but if you want to know about the industry and the abuse of new hires, I recommend the recent book, " The Mailroom: Hollywood History from the Bottom Up."

Summary: Glad I read this before going back to Hollywood......
Review: I had a brief encounter with Hollywood, doing the scene and playing some bit parts in sevral A movies. Back on the East Coast I have advanced my acting skills and focused on commitment to my acting. This book says it like it is......seeing it all in print gives me a renewed and an exciting sense of digging in and reapproaching the Hollywood scene (a truly tough one)with a new and positive sense of confidence of how I plan to focus on the next stage of my career. This is a great read; factual and witty, surely one that should be read by all those interested in a career of entertaining. Many thanks. Hope someday I can meet Bill Robinson.

Summary: Hilarious! Scary, but true....
Review: I loved every devilish line of this book. I even fell down onto the floor laughing. I'm buying half a dozen of these to send to my friends in Hollywood! This is exactly the lives they once lead... and I thank GOD they're now finally dining at Patina while on the cell phone ordering their assistants to get their friends tickets to the Vanity Fair party and to arrange obscure boat trips in Greece. Thanks Bill and Cerredwin for painting the picture with such frank and celebratory humor!

Summary: Down and Dirty
Review: I thought it was funny. Most of these How-to books are overly technical and dry. This had a good balance of humor and gossip and info.

Summary: Very Entertaining, Truly Horrifying
Review: I'm an artist living in Chicago; I make $700 a month teaching. I would like more work, but I now know some work I would never ever want. The Hollywood life has never been tempting to me and this book has been wonderful in confirming why. I know that there are horrible people everywhere in America, but this book so nicely breaks down what is special about the horrible people in L.A. I especially like the section about L.A. neighborhoods, having just visited the place.

More books need to be this kind of mean. Maybe this book should be a part of a series with the next one about the Publishing industry, then the Art Market, then the Fashion industry. You can get fired from any job for any reason if your boss is a big enough jerk. Just ask anyone who's worked for Vogue

Summary: Hallelujah!!
Review: Take it from someone who has been chewed up and spit out, but still surviving in the trenches, this book is a must read for anyone who dreams of a better life in La-La Land. Who let the dogs out? God. And they all reside in Hollywood. This hilarious handbook/'bible" should be passed out to everyone who crosses the Los Angeles county lines. For those of you still brave enough to venture here, you've got brothers and sisters who feel your pain, so memorize it, sleep with it under your pillow, get the book on tape for godsake, but give yourself a leg up and order it for next day air.
