Summary: Action starts before I know it!
Review: Ed ain't a bad writer, he is very good. But sometimes I just don't get, a little more description of what's going on would do and a little less really complicated times. Like when he's dreaming or what's Coronal, how did that Dragon come when Ilidinyantra or whatever killed herself??? Some parts take a while to absorb or understand. But otherwise, description, battles, spells were pretty cool, fun to imagine, nice dialogue and emotion. And one of the fav chapters for me was the one where Eltagrim and Lyntra were arguing, oh-la-la, nice description in the moonlight.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: Ed Greenwood did a pretty good job of explaining how Elminster was accepted into Cormanthyr (Myth Drannor). There were a few low points in te book but over all it came out pretty good. I suggest it for anyone who is really interested in Elminster's past.

Summary: Greenwood has done it again!
Review: Elminster is a delightfully colorful character with a magical life a reader could best experience by the illustration of Ed Greenwood. Excellent story and great reading for FR fans! My single gripe is the very difficult to pronounce Elven names.

Summary: One of the best fantasy writers ever!
Review: I can't get enough of Ed Greenwood's writing. His mix of intricate fantasy imagination, complicated plot lines, character development, and humor are second to none. I used to be a RPG geek but don't have the time to play anymore. Greenwood's writing is a great replacement. I hope to see more of his work soon. And yeah, what's up with the inflated price?

Summary: GODS, I love Elminster!!!
Review: I do not think I have seen a better character than Elminster in I do not know how many years. I can understand why EG does not want to release the Old Mage. If you have any doubts about RPG fantasy, read this book and reconsider...

Summary: Interesting but a bit confusing
Review: I found this book rather dry and predictable. It was very confusing in places, as all wording was in an old english styling. It left me wondering, in parts, what exactly Elminster was doing, or why he was doing something. Another aspect of the book was the fact that he was pretty much superior in all ways. I realise being "The Chosen" of Mystra has its advantages, but every time he invoked the goddesses name she answered. It seems to me that she would like to see her "Chosen" to solve things on his own. This makes him to powerful, leading to a rather dry story. The book is nice to read, for those players and DM's in the AD&D Forgotten Realms game, to know where the greatest mage in the realms came from, but for plain readers of fantasy I would not recommend it.

Summary: Ed Greenwood has done it again.
Review: I give this book 5 stars, well possibly 4 and a half for it started to lag near the end when El was wandering aroung as a phantom. This novel gave a good look into Elminster's past during his first mission as one of Mystra's Chosen and the persecution that he faced by the xenophobic elves during his time in Cormanthyr. After reading this novel I'm only left with one question. Who is the Mentor, and why was he so readily accepted by the elves?

Summary: Next to Best
Review: I have to admit there were some slow parts in the book where the story dragged slightly, but for the most part there was good action throughout. Although it doesn't match the first book to a tee it does very well. Another great book Ed!

Summary: Now this is a great book. . . .
Review: I highly suggest you read Elminster: the making of a mage before you read this book

Before reading this, I'd thought it would a peaceful, laid-back, enjoyable book of how Elminster grew up learning from the elves about their magicks. NOT! Imploring more than a little into the elves vs. the world style prejudice, Ed Greenwood creates a rollercoaster of a novel, driven by action and set in the beautiful elven nation of Myth Drannor. There are absolutely NO complaints from me- actually, I think that the elves' hatred for humans drove them to actions that I found somewhat unpredictable, or rather unlikely for elves, that is the only flaw in the book, which isn't even worth taking off half a star for. Read this bloody book if you read Forgottten Realms. Get it. From Amazon.com ....

Summary: Ummmmm WOW!!!
Review: I love it. This book is about my favorite character in the Forgotten Realms. The book is packed full of action, and I loved reading the fights with Elminster and all the magic. Plus some of the tricks Elminster pulls on people are hilarious.
