Sure, we understood the software basics, but Michael Wohl introduces what editors really do, what their contribution to a video is, and how to pull this off using Final Cut Pro. Reading it was one of those moments when someone turns a light on. Yea, I guess you can tell that I recommend it -- I gave one to each member of my staff for Christmas.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The book stands on its own as an excellant resource and is true to the high standards of research and documentation of Peach Pit Press products, and the free CD-ROM which ships with the book is the best instruction I have seen to date. The interactive CD-ROM is hosted by Zak Tucker, editor and founder of Swete Studios, who takes you step by step through the ropes of editing a television commercial. The footage is great to work with and Zak makes the instruction interesting and clear. It's so refreshing to finally be getting hands on teaching from the real experts, the editors, the people who use Final Cut Pro 2.0 day in day out. I give this three thumbs, nine out of ten. Can someone please recommend a book for non-professionals that teaches you in a friendly, strait forward way?

Review: This is one of the most readable textbooks I have ever come across - I have read it cover-to-cover. It's prime subject is Editing with the added benefits of FCP workflow solutions. I've been editing in FCP for 3 years and had my workflow down flat. Micheal Wohl introduced me to some time saving techniques that I never would have thought of. The only missing Chapter is on Media Management. I don't think anyone has a real handle on how to propertly archive digital media. A great reference for "experts" and beginners alike.

It's clearly for a specific audience, the intermediate editor, especially one working on an indie film. For beginners or highly skilled editors moving over to FCP, buy the excellent and highly recommended Tom Wolsky book, Final Cut Pro2 Editing Workshop. Ignore the 2 in the title, it works just fine with FCP3

It seems to me that anyone who helped create a program will certainly know how it works or that's what we think. Micheal is and editor with many years of experience and he shows you the different ways you can use FCP. Don't buy this for problem solving to FCP, buy it as a good reference book when you need to learn different ways to edit. It's like a good cook book , you can always pick it off the shelf and look for something new to cook.
