Rating: Summary: horror hotel rocks Review: although dee dee was a drug addict, and this book might end up being banned from a few places, its still a great book. It really shows you life can be alot worse, so quit bitching.
Rating: Summary: Gabba Gabba Great! Review: Black leather! Knee-hole pants! Classic! There are two distinct similarities between Dee Dee's debut novel "Chelsea Horror Hotel" and the music he and the Ramones have given us...both are defiant and timeless. Dee Dee's stream of consciousness writing will catch you from the very beginning and never let go. There's a wonderful gritty quality to his long form writing style. The individual who penned so many great songs is clearly present within the covers of this novel. It's surprising how many of Dee Dee's songs could act as the soundtrack to "Chelsea Horror Hotel". If you've ever wondered why the Ramones sang, "I Don't Wanna Go Down To The Basement"...you need only read this novel to find out! At times, some of the scenes that Dee Dee describes have a sort of "comic-book" feel to them. The insertion of some of his original artwork lends itself nicely and compliments these passages. His biographical stuff was a lot of fun to read, but "Chelsea Horror Hotel" surpasses his earlier work. This is a FANTASTIC debut novel. Keep it up, Dee Dee! I look forward to your next one! Gabba Gabba Hey!

Rating: Summary: Chelsea Horror Hotel is Twisted Fun! Review: Chelsea Horror Hotel is the brutally hilarious account of a day in the life of an ex-Ramone and his girlfriend living in the infamous Chelsea Hotel in New York City. Follow Dee Dee Ramone and Barbara (and Banfield, the couple's talking dog!) as they move from one room to another in the hotel trying to cope with the insanity, violence, drug taking, and satanic rituals that plague the Chelsea. See Dee Dee meet up with old friends like Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, Stiv Bators, and Sid Vicious. Beelzebub himself even makes an appearance. The Chelsea Horror Hotel is a must for fans of Dee Dee and the Ramones. Read the book and take a peek into the vivid and demented imagination of its ingenious author. Kudos to Dee Dee Ramone for a fine first novel.
Rating: Summary: I don't wanna go down to the basement Review: Dee Dee Ramone's first novel is about a miserable creep named Dee Dee Ramone. Well, they say write about what you know. The book doesn't start off too bad, detailing Dee Dee's (fictionalized) life at the Chelsea Hotel. But things go downhill when a group of dead punk rockers show up and try to get Dee Dee to join a human sacrificing Satanic cult. None of the characters in this book act believably, not even the Dee Dee character. I am a big fan of Dee Dee, but this book revels in his worst traits, which are his misanthropy and self hated. This is a very unpleasant book, which most people will not enjoy.

Rating: Summary: I WANNA BE SEDATED (after reading this book) Review: First of all, the only reason I gave this ONE star is because you can't give it ZERO. I must also say that I couldn't even finish the damn thing. I would rather read a bathroom stall at a bus station, because at least that would make some sense. Although Dee Dee was a very accomplished songwriter, and I do enjoy the Ramones, he should certainly never write another novel. NEVER. EVER! I couldn't believe how incoherent and self-absorbed this story (can you call it that? stories usually have a plot) was. I also wonder if the editors at the publishing company even looked at the manuscript, because a preschooler can form more complete sentences than Dee Dee can. Maybe I just needed to be as high as Dee Dee to be able to understand it. This has to be the first time I haven't even been able to finish a book. It pained me to read as far as I did. Junkies? Piranhas? Transvestites? Twenty-years-dead Sid Vicious? Talking dogs? Satan worshippers? At least you can say this book has everything...except: a plot, proper grammar, complete sentences, more than a preschool vocabulary, character development...pretty much all the key elements of a novel. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! Your money will be better spent if your name is Jack and you trade it for some magic beans.
Rating: Summary: Renaissance Man in a Black Leather Jacket Review: He writes marvelously autobiographical songs, he plays and sings marvelously autobiographical material, he has written a marvelous autobiography (in two versions), so it should come as no surprise, that this - Dee Dee Ramone's first novel - is marvelous and autobiographical. It is also vastly entertaining. The various themes - drugs, punks, junkies and drunks - will come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Dee Dee's work. The underlying theme of constant horror is also found in much of Dee Dee's work, especially as it relates to the general horror of mental illness. Dee Dee has done quite a lot with his themes, and this book will please any long-time Ramones fan, and might pleasantly surprise those who were previously unfamiliar or unimpressed with both Dee Dee and The Ramones. This is a stellar first novel, and I only hope there are more where this came from.
Rating: Summary: Next time, leave the Punk Rockers in Hell. Review: I don't know if i'm not up on things or what but this book never really made sense to me. The first half was ok. It was gory and pointless but at least I could understand where Dee Dee was going. However, when all of his punk rock friends show up as ghosts, everything goes to hell, literally. The rest of the book is a frantic, drug-induced dream that I don't really care to read about. Everything about this book is a mess and it should be kept off of every intelligent reader's bookshelf.
