Summary: Not enough about Biggie
Review: "The Murder of Biggie Smalls" doesn't have enough about the murder of Biggie Smalls. There are next to no new revelations about the case. Instead, the author rehashes Tupac Shakur's murder and then goes into completely unrelated information about Biggie's producer Puffy Combs to fill up the last chapters. Some of the interviews with Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, are interesting but that's the only positive thing about the book which is repetitive and extremely poorly written. As far as writing style, it may be the poorest writing I've ever read.

Summary: Great book - a must for Biggie Smalls fans!
Review: After reading this book, I have a much better understanding of what went on behind the scenes after the murder and also gave me insight into the rap music world. I doubt if there will ever be a better biography of his life.

This book was easy to follow - I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

Summary: Very informative reading for me into the world of rap music.
Review: AFter the murders of two rap singers I was interested in learning more about the murders. I was not very informed on the Biggie Smalls murder until I read this book. It was written very well and allowed me into this world of rap music and allowed me to see different sides to Biggie Smalls. The author did a very good job of covering some history and also the course of events leading up to the murder and afterwards.

Summary: A Must Read for B.I.G. Fans
Review: Fans of the late, great Notorious B.I.G. will not be disappointed in Cathy Scott's compendium of research and notes about the mystery surrounding Big's murder.

The book was a bit redundant throughout, repeating information sometimes numerous times. Although is was strictly about the murder case, it would have been much better if Scott changed the theme into the life and times of Christopher Wallace leading up to his death. A Biography would have simply been more suiting.

The Murder of Biggie Smalls is a griping story, but much of the story was focused on other subjects. A whole chapter was dedicatd to the murder of Tupac Shakur. A whole chapter dedicated to Puff Daddy. There was a bit of speculation on the murder but there was a lot of redundant, boring information about police structures and such that aren't interesting.

Good or not, this is the only book touching on the subject of Christopher Wallace. Fans won't want to miss this one but casuals may want to skip out on it.

Summary: and other issues
Review: I was disappointed by this book. I thought the book would be about BIG, but the book focused on people who really didn't have anything to do with him. The book doesn't focus on Christopher Wallace, instead it tells more about Tupac, Orlando Anderson, and other unimportant people. A lot of things are mentioned six times in the book. There are few new details. What I would have liked was more about his childhood, as Voletta Wallace is a source that shouldn't have been a problem. What exactly happened that night? Some people are keeping their mouth shut and that is a real shame. BIG is still the greatest, he should have gotten more respect than this, not only from Cathy Scott, but also from his "friends"!

Summary: a good summary for the audience left out of the loop
Review: Reading the BIG book updated me on the events that happen prior to his death. Most of the facts come from the Vibe or previously written material from other magazines. Mrs Wallace contribution was the only sincere material from the book. The book is only great for the disconnected hip hop enthusiast. The book should have been written by an african american that follows hip hop or in hip hop. I question the authors credibility. A more sincere book could have come from "lil cease".

Summary: Very comprehensive and informative!
Review: Reading this book gave me insight into the rap world. It also answered a lot of questions for me.

The author did a great job "reporting" this rap star's murder!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Biggie
Review: the book was ok (not done with it) yet repeats everything like 50 times ; talks a lot about tupac and says affidavit way to muuch

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Not what I expected...
Review: This book was very redundant, with the same facts and quotes used much too often. It also seemed to focus more on Tupac Shakur, Suge Knight, and Orlando Anderson than Biggie himself, which is puzzling to me since the author makes the point that none of the three had any connection to "the murder of Biggie Smalls." The book also gives no clear theory on his murder and basically is just a reprinting of the events of the past few years with several factual errors. If you have read the newspapers you most likely won't find anything new in this book, so don't waste your time.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: An exciting page-turner
Review: This book, on the heels of Scott's THE KILLING OF TUPAC SHAKUR, is an exquisitely-drawn account of the life and death of another enormously popular rap artist who, like Tupac, died much too young. THE MURDER OF BIGGIE SMALLS reveals a life style that Mr. and Ms. Average Citizen find jaw-droppingly different from anything they've experienced. This book is a stream of light that penetrates all the dark corners and leads the uninitiated to an "Oh, yeah! I get it!" Those who "got it" twenty years ago when rap was born, will learn the answers to questions that have plagued rap afficionados since the lives (and potential) of their heroes began to be violently and senslessly cut short.
