Rating: Summary: I'm almost getting teary... Review: I read Armour's books over and over again when I was younger, they are *so* hysterical and brilliant, and I was so happy to read that there are others who remember and love his books, I felt as if I was among long-lost friends...the books must be published again!
Rating: Summary: Funnier than seeing Maurice Evans in leotards Review: I read this book back when I was a high schooler struggling through Shakespeare. Believe it or not, it actually helped! Richard Armour is a brilliant Shakespearean authority who refuses to take his subject seriously...thank goodness. There are numerous puns, too numerous to noomber, and the double entendres fly with reckless abandon. Find this book. It will bring you hours of joy!
Rating: Summary: One of my all time favorites! Review: I read this book in 1958, shortly after it was published, and reread it several years later. Now, forty years later, after I had given it to my daughter, who lost it, I am looking for another copy, so I can read it again, and save it for my grandchildren. A must-read for any literary person!
Rating: Summary: All you need to know about the Bard...in a weird sorta way.. Review: If you ever wanted to know why his wife got only
his second best bed, or why some of the gloves
he made for his father had more than five fingers, you've found the right book. Tragedies become comedies, comedies get
funnier, and tragi - comedies become comi - tragedies.
This book will give you enough worthless, funny,
trivial information about Shakespeare that you'll
know more about the Bard and his works than
anyone else...in a weird sorta' way.
GET it if you can FIND it
Rating: Summary: Hit every garage sale just to find this book. Review: If you love the old Bard or are just stuck having to take a class on his stuff this is a must have study guide. I was lent a copy of this to suppliment my study at Rutgers. It had me in stitches (and eventually my whole class). ----Ron Daniels
Rating: Summary: An abolute classic of literary humor Review: If you've ever enjoyed reading and/or seeing Shakespeare, or if you feel you've suffered terribly studying his plays in school, this book is for you. Going through several plays scene by scene (sometimes line by line), Armour finds humor even in the Bard's most serious moments. He also writes short introductory pieces to each play and a wonderful introduction. This book, along with Armour's "The Classics Reclassified," should be back in print to be enjoyed by the new generation and the ones that preceded it.

Rating: Summary: Punished by reading Shakespeare? Get this book!! Review: If your idea of academic torture is a literature class where Shakespeare is required reading, then you MUST beg, borrow, or steal a copy of this classic! It will totally change your perspective, and restore the humor that the Bard originally intended--which has unfortunately been lost by the changing of word usage through the centuries. An example from MacBeth: "Lady MacBeth was famous for fingerpainted murals done in other people's blood. 'Out damned spot!' she cried, rubbing her hands with Glee, a miracle detergent of those days." Especially recommended for those who never thought that Shakespeare could be funny!!
Rating: Summary: Shakespeare in Love? Now read Shakespeare in hysteria! Review: Maybe it's because of all the renewed interest in Shakespeare suddenly, but suddenly I feel like making everybody I know (with a sense of humour) read this absolutely delightful book I must have read in high school! 40 years ago. I feel terrible when bookstores say they've never heard of him. How thrilling to know there are many Richard Armour fans like me out there! I remember so many gags still- especially from Macbeth. Also Ït all started with Eve"--Must get them someday!!
Rating: Summary: Great Fun Review: This book was hilarious! I read this right after reading MacBeth in my second year of high school. I could not stop laughing! Lucky for me, the school library was going to throw this book out, so I asked if I could have it. Four years later, I am still laughing. I highly recommend this book!
