Rating: Summary: One of the best U.N.C.L.E books for sale..highly recommended Review: I recently bought this book from this great Amazon site and am very pleased with it. It contains many rare pictures from the show and insights into the production of one of my favorite shows on 60s television. The price was very reasonable and I am glad that I ordered it. Highly recommended book!
Rating: Summary: Packed with amazing behind-the-scenes information! Review: I've read a number of books about various TV series and this one is easily the finest of them all. Each page is densely packed with an amazing amount of detail. I've never seen such a thoroughly researched book in all my life. It's as though the author were able to go back in time and eavesdrop on every stage of the show's development. An amazing work. Better still, the writing style is enjoyable. There's nothing dry about this book. I've reread it several times. It also makes a great reference book on the series. I find myself refering back to various chapters all the time. Congratulations are due to author Jon Heitland. Fans of this wonderful show owe him a true debt of gratitude.
Rating: Summary: A loss leader! Review: If the book is so great, why wasn't it sold off long ago? Why are there copies still left? Buy it to line your birdcage after you read it. Great indeed. Boulderdash.
Rating: Summary: Man from U.N.C.L.E. Review: It was a delightful surprise to see a book devoted to my favorite '60s television show. Well researched and well written, it was a pleasure to read. The numerous photos added greatly to the memories the information was evoking. I was especially impressed to see the introduction written by Mr. Vaughn. His willingness to be associated with this work speaks well for the credibility of the author. Many thanks for reintroducing me to a show I enjoyed then, and now.
Rating: Summary: Thanks to the United Network Command for Law & Enforcement! Review: Jon Heitland delves into incredible detail about how this wonderful, trend-setting spy series came into being, later essentially destroyed itself with self-parody & camp, then tried too late for redemption. Featuring interviews with surviving crew & cast, Heitland's exhaustive research provides far more than just a sentimental journey down memory lane -- he gives insight into a pop culture icon & the turbulent generation into which it was born & helped to shape. A must for any serious U.N.C.L.E. fan, & a cracking good read even for the most casual viewer.

Rating: Summary: Negative comments make sense Review: Recently acquired the book, realizing its price has been upped while the material inside is dated, I read through the pages and found this series will hold absolutely no attraction to the present generation. While it may have fascinated a viewer yearning to recall his childhood in the 60s (and trying never to grow up or leave that time-period), it would never elicit even a spark from anyone of the 70s and afterward. The negative comments need to be taken seriously because their speakers have demonstrated the courage to break through the mold of steadfast starcrossed loyalty to present feasible constructive criticism.
Now another negative comment must be uttered: the inflated price screams "buy it and then sell it right away."
Rating: Summary: A book about a highly overrated television series Review: The author helped open my eyes to the real truth about the faddish television series. The chapters really contain information about why this show was doomed right from the start. A revealing look at the merchandise used to capitalize on the spy craze at the time and why too many writers and producers planted the fatal kiss to the program. Since reading this book I have sworn off any interest in the show!
Rating: Summary: A look at a show that lived and died fast Review: The book is mainly a desperate attempt to satisfy the author's obsession (he does not want to grow up), a book about a television program that lived fast and died hard, it could only live in the mind of anyone who denies a personal fear of aging. The gadgets in this now-primitive show are monotonous and no longer innovative--the Uzi can beat any plastic prop by a mile( and blow a copy to smithereens...).
Rating: Summary: A fascinating and intricate dissection of a TV classic Review: The classic SPY series, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. ruled the airwaves in the 1960's and rode the crest of the worldwide spy craze. Author Jon Heitland takes you deep inside the show, at every step from development through to the end of it's spectacular four year run, and the influences that brought this show down well before its time. The stars of the show became pop idols, and even the props on the show received volumes of fan mail. Better than any other writer of a TV show history, Jon Heitland makes you feel as though you are there, and breaths life into the show again. Each page is densely packed with facts, while at the same time keeping the book highly readable. He is a skilled researcher and a talented writer and he has chosen a subject that is much more than just a TV classic, it was a cultural force in one of the most fascinating decades of the 20th Century.
