Summary: May well be the finest book of its kind.
Review: I reread this bible over and over. Can't say enough good about it. Zicree's work is superb! Only have one nit to pick. His analysis of "Five Characters In Search Of An Exit" completely misses the mark (pun intended). Marc, read (or reread) Sartre's "No Exit" then reflect on the human condition in general, the categorical roles we play, etc. Then rewatch Rod's superlative treatment of all of this. I think you'll see what I mean.

Summary: GREAT REFERENCE for any TZ fan!
Review: I've referred to this book so often when watching old episodes that it's frayed on the edges! It's a great source of info and helps viewers get more in depth with each show. Also offers behind-the-scene tidbits of interest to die hard fans. I enjoyed the "dictionary" style which lists each episode by title, making it easy to look up your favorite shows. For any Twilight Zone fan, this is a great addition to your bookshelf.

Summary: On one of the greatest televison shows ever.
Review: Informative and entertaining look at the series The Twilight Zone which ran on CBS from 1959 to 1964. Includes detailed information on the actors who appeared in each episode, how these shows were filmed, how they were written, a profile of series creator Rod Serling, and how the Twilight Zone came to influence the a lot of science fiction television and movies which came afterward.

Summary: Three outa five
Review: It goes without saying that if you're a TZ fan, you gotta have this book on hand. Certainly there's a lot in Zicree's work. Quotations from interviews with many cast members and Buck Houghton (producer of the first three seasons) are included, perhaps the best feature of the book. He gives decent analyses to perhaps 30 per cent of the episodes, but the remainder are slapdash and filled with often rash-sounding, often objectionable statements. Examples: he rattles off a forgettable three sentences for his review of "The Whole Truth" (a mediocre episode, but certainly more could be said) and yet he devotes nearly five pages to "Nothing in the Dark" and "The Bard" (average episodes at best). More photographs should defintely have been included...the ones included are often small stills from the episodes. A few nice ones are included but for such a visual series as TZ, this book needs more pics. Even more cast interviews would have been nice, as well. I'd never call this a seriously flawed effort. It coulda been far, far better, though.

Summary: Detailed Episode summaries, and amazing extra info plus more
Review: Now I'm not the biggest Twilight Zones fan. I can't recite every line to Nightware at 20,000 feet or tell you what episode number Time Enough at Last is. But when I got this book, I fell in love with the Twilight Zone. Marc Scott Zicree does a fantastic job by explaining what happens in each episode. He can tell you what Rod Serling says at the opening and closing, who stars in the episode, if it was taken from another idea, PLUS! Every episode summary is followed by an extremely detailed extra info pages. Did you know that Terror at 20,000 feet or To Serve Man, two of the Twilight Zone's greatest episodes, weren't really Rod Serlings ideas? (They were copied from Stories) Or that A game of pool has two endings? (They include the dialogue of both endings in the book) With a full 15 page bio of Rod Serling at the beggining, any Twilight Zone fan, big or small, will love this book.

Summary: Not perfect but close
Review: Okay, here's the deal. This is most detailed Twilight Zone episode guide in print. It does a fine job describing the episodes and includes Rod Sterling's opening and closing lines. It talks about the behind the scenes history of the show and has vingettes on the most important of the show's writers.

There's only two things wrong with it. The author gives a totally uncalled for critique of each episode. His understanding of the Twilight Zone seems to be only academic because he doesn't seem to "get" anything nor does he seem to like any of the episodes that are considered to be fan favorites.

Secondly, he drops the ball on the Charles Beaumont section. He tells us that Beaumont suffered horribly from a strange disease and died at 38 (but looked and acted like a 90 year old) but after devoting pages to his story fails to tell the reader what Mr. Beaumont died of.

Until someone else writes a companion guide this book is it. I'll read the episode guides and ignore the snotty commentary.

Summary: There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man
Review: One of the best Sci-Fi anthology series deserves an outstanding episode guide and Marc Scott Zicree has delivered. I have had my copy for some time and like many it is dog-eared but well used. The guide gives more then just the episode summary; you get the opening and closing narrations as well as commentaries on a few notable episodes. Mr. Zicree does give his personal opinions on a few of the bad episodes but does a great job on explaining the importance of the series and the host who is easily the most recognizable TV character. I had a chance to talk with Mr. Zicree at a Sci-Fi Con and he happily autographed my copy and was very happy to talk Twilight Zone and expressed his love for the series and what a pleasure it was to write the guide. This guide is a must have for any fan of the series and a good read for those who might find themselves lost in the Twilight Zone.

Summary: from all the citizenry of the Zone----
Review: That's right! You get it all here, every season, every episode, all the twists and turns. Lots information about Rod Serling and the other people involved in this fantastic show.

You get a synopsis of every episode including the plots, the writer (including whether the story came from a short story or was an origional), who directed, produced, starred, and composed (if applicable) in every episode! Also, there is a discussion of every episode with lots of interviews with the actors, directors, etc. This is great for fans.

Summary: T-Zone Chronicles
Review: The Twlight Zone was one of the best written shows that was ever produced for TV. Every episode gave the viewer something to think about. This book is an excellent reference guide to the episodes and what went into making them the gems that they are.
