Summary: Wow!
Review: I've never known an "instruction" book to be a barn burner before but this is one of those books.

I read it cover to cover in one sitting, then went back and read it again.

I do voice-overs, I teach voice-overs and I continue to learn from the likes of Harlan Hogan..and I don't even know the guy.

But, I'd like too.

Summary: My Favorite Book on VO.
Review: I've never written a review on Amazon, but I like this book so much I just had to do it. Harlan's book is a must read, not only for aspiring voice talent but for those who are curious about the voiceover profession. There's a wealth of information here, and it's written in a style that's engaging and easy to read. My favorite sections are those that describe the way voiceover used to be back in the day, now lost with our world of recording from home studios and remote access with people we'll never meet except over a phone line. Harlan's generosity in sharing his knowlege is very greatly appreciated, and I've pre-ordered his next book.

Summary: Great for Voice-Overs...but Producers Like It Too!
Review: I've worked with many, many voice talents over the past 18 years. If I could go back in time and share this book with most of them, I could regain about 4,000 hours of time that was wasted on people who needed a clue!

Not only does this book serve as a guide for would-be VO's, it also provides an A-Z retrospective on the history of the industry. It is as entertaining as it is informative.

Looking forward to the sequel!

Summary: Been there, done that....But Now I have the book!
Review: If you are a voice over talent, you will find things in this book that you never knew. You will also relate to times and events when you were in the studio and had difficult clients, like those that wanted you to 'punch-up' every word and more. Mr. Hogan has done a brilliant job of really putting all the cards on the table in this book. He shows what lengths a true "gonna make it to the top or die trying" attitude is needed to make your dreams of being an actor come true. His insight and writing style make you feel he is sitting across the table from you. The book is informative, intuitive, hilarious and a must have for any person, pro or wanna be, in the voice over acting field. I couldn't put it down! Thanks H2 for unselfishly sharing your talent and providing solid advice to be successful in our wonderful industry!

Summary: It kept me up all night!
Review: In my 25 years as a VO talent and instructor (author of How To Make Money in Voice-Overs Even if You Don't Live in NY or LA) THIS is the best VO book I've ever read. Harlan not only entertains with hilarious stories --one after another-- that every professional talent can relate to... he mixes his entertainment with more "how to" facts than the straight "how to" VO books! He's direct, to the point, informative, and entertaining, all at the same time! I recommend it for talent of ALL levels. In fact, I want to make it available at my future VO workshops. Harlan --what you did here was amazing! Thank you for the laughs.. and for another fabulous resource to recommend to those who ask me about getting into voiceovers!

Summary: Over scale!
Review: Many voiceover books provide tips and copy with which to practice. Some provide behind-the-scenes insight. Harlan Hogan's book stands out with great suggestions for technique as well as fascinating anecdotes, that'll make you feel like you are part of the voiceover community even before you enter the booth. Enjoy AND learn!!

Summary: A fun read for wannabees and working pros alike
Review: There are lots of books on voiceover for beginners and those thinking of getting into the business--Harlan has written a book that will help beginners but is also full of information and fun for working pros as well. I've been a fulltime voice-over actor for over 15 years and I not only learned a lot, I really enjoyed the stories of wacky recording sessions and the strange behavior of other talents, producers and clients. Each chapter is split into a techniques section, where you can get the meat in just a few pages, and a story section where you see the voiceover business as it really is from a man who has lived it. Don't take the shortcut! The story sections are too much fun!

Summary: Both insightful and entertaining
Review: This book is a great read! Whether you are looking for expert advice on how to break into the voice over industry or just some entertaining inside information on the radio and voice over industry this book seems to hit the mark!

For as competitive as the industry is, it is AMAZING how very generous Harlan is with the free advice, inside information and how to gain the competitive edge...the only way he could give you any more assistance is by getting you a gig and doing the voice for you :)

Enjoy!

Summary: Everything You Need to get Started (almost)!
Review: This book is a must-read if you're considering a career as a voice-over talent. A candid and genuine view from inside the industry, it's full of practical tips and information - knowledge that would take years to get on your own. If you have the talent it takes - a good speaking voice and the ability to read aloud, this book will get you started. The only things it can't give you... the commitment and the desire to realize your dreams.
