Summary: Harlan gets it right
Review: A lot of books on this subject are just another way to get money from [people] who have heard all the "easy money" stories about voice-over.

Harlan goes way beyond that to write what, to me, is the best book on the subject thus far. It tells the real truths about the biz - and illustrates them with both hilarious and close-to-the-bone anecdotes. Especially important is the fact that Harlan's book is right up to date with the massive changes to the biz in the last 3 - 5 years - most others aren't.

As a fellow VO, I have respected Harlan's work over the years, but never known him personally - so the material on his own personal life was interesting, revealing, and touching as well.

Summary: Highly recommeded!
Review: An excellent read for all, not just those interested in voice-over work. The format is not your typical 'how to...' format, but rather the author's story of how his career led him to be one of the most well-known and sought after voice actors of his time. This is the kind of book that you just can't put down once you have started reading it.

Review: As a 26-year broadcaster and now voice-actor I found Harlans book both a wealth of information and a totally entertaining read. Harlan offers tons of usefull inormation for the wannabee/newbie and the career pro alike. The stories and anecdotes from his early years in radio are hilarious and brought back some memories for this reader as well.
You'll enjoy every page and definately come away with lots of valuable career info from one of the industries best!

Summary: Best Voice Over Book!
Review: As a fledgling voice-over actor, I have read several books on this subject. All of them give tips and hints, voice exercises and other helpful information, but none give an idea of what it's like to actually BE in the business. Harlan Hogan shares his story on how he got started, as well as tons of detailed (and often humorous) accounts of jobs he's done over the years. I found myself often laughing out loud! He also offers a lot of helpful, real-world advice on what it takes to get started, build a career, and keep it going.

So far, this is the best book on the field of voice-overs I've read. Entertaining and informative.

Summary: Terrific Book by a Terrific Talent
Review: As a working VO, I've read pretty much every book out there, and this one is by far the best. With helpful advice on performing, marketing and even setting up a home recording studio, mixed in with hilarious stories of what it's really like in the business, this book is a must-read.

Summary: An excellent resourse and a fun read
Review: As a working voice over artist in New york City, I found Harlan Hogan's book to be the perfect research between auditions. Advice from one of the nations top in-demand VO personalities has proved invaluable, as I can now more clearly project my career and future focus. He brings this seemingly elusive industry into plain view, and provides readers with a witty, humorous and quite human journey along the way. Mr. Hogan's book is a must-read for anyone with professional aspirations, or even a passing fancy in any aspect of acting, entertainment, broadcasting, communications or advertising.

Summary: A truly enjoyable and informative read!
Review: As a working voiceover artist(e) and talk-show host living in Japan and doing lots and lots of English narrations, broadcast shows, and commercial work, I was interested in reading aobut the latest techniques, business details, and stories from my contemporaries in the States.

Harlan's book was far more than I ever expected. I simply couldn't put it down, and read it cover-to-cover in two days, stopping only for a nap. His stories and humor are the stuff legends are made of. What a great read!

I startled my wife with open laughter numerous times while reading... especially regarding "Blooper's Soap"; a term I have used frequently, but never with a knowledge of it's true origins.

The technical aspects, advice, and coaching he gives in the book is up-to-date, highly useful, and informative even for those of us who have been in the business for awhile.

I am a very critical reader, and rarely give 5-stars for anything... but here is a true exception. Very, very highly recommended to wanna-be's, new-be's, and journeymen VO artists all.
BUY IT!
