Rating: Summary: Mokhtar did it! Review: For a long time I had hoped an African drummer would write a book based on contemporary African drumset playing. Mokhtar did it, and what a drummer! His book is a gem.Je souhaitais depuis longtemps qu'un batteur africain écrive un livre basé sur le jeu de batterie africain actuel. Mokhtar l'a écrit, et quel batteur! Son ouvrage est incontournable.

Rating: Summary: African exponentiation Review: Mokhtar unfolds layer after layer of colors, textures, pulses that are the ingredients for the 'hologram' of African effect (and my affection). Rating: Summary: Expand your groove! Review: You've heard the AACM's slogan: "Ancient to the Future"? This text personifies it! Mokhtar says, "fifteen years there were no drumset players in Africa...we're just starting to develop this art form..." Talk about hitting the ground running (in first place)! This new book is an important addition to a small but growing list of excellent method books that apply traditional African rhythms, from many of its countries, to the drumset. If you're a drumset player who's been developing your Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and "World Beat" chops, or curious about hand percussion rhythms and how to apply them to the kit, don't pass this book by! Roots rhythms are made fresh, challenging and fun! Talk about coming full circle - by embracing the past, Mokhtar points us in the direction of the drumset's future!
