Summary: Amazing, amazing book to begin and grow interest in magic
Review: This book is simply perfect. Each chapter corresponds to a specific technique and concludes with complete "tricks" that employ that technique. The chapters generally build on each other, but you can jump around to some extent. The book's many illustrations make the difficult aspects of the tricks transparent.

This book, plus the willingness to practice card conjuring in private and then actually perform the tricks for friends and families will get you there! I ran one trick 4 or 5 times for one of my colleagues the other day; her only response: "Oh, I get it, it's a trick deck right? They're all the same card, right?" Nope. When I turned over all the cards (revealing a genuine deck) her jaw simply dropped.....

Review: This is a MUST HAVE book for every magician. It is considered to be the classic reference book on card magic techniques, skills, sleights and effects. Reprint rights are owned privately by a supplier of magic equipment now, which is why Amazon.Com may have a problem stocking this book. But please don't let this discourage you! This book is still in print, and is available! Amazon.Com will be able to locate a copy for you, either through a used book dealer or through any magic shop, and you'll be glad you went through the effort. We highly recommend this book to our MagicTricks.Com customers.

Summary: A Wonderful Book For Magicians of All Kinds
Review: This is the book that got me seriously started with card magic, and I still learn something every time I pick it up.
It teaches the basics of card magic: shuffles, palming, the pass, glimpses, etc. But more importantly, it covers the real secret of magic: how to entertain and amaze. There is more to a card trick than meets the eye, and this book covers those things.
Each chapter teaches a sleight (or sleights) or a principle of magic, and then a trick (or tricks) utilizing that sleight.
I still use some of the tricks from this book in my performances. The tricks taught are all excellent and absolute stunners in the right hands.
Besides the general chapters, there are two chapters on flourishes, one on routining an act, and one on platform tricks.
I highly recommend this book to all students of magic. It is a classic, and an excellent choice for the beginner. Even if you are an expert, you should own this book, as it will enrich you as a magician.
The Royal Road to Card Magic is one of my favorite books in my magic library.

Summary: An excellent introduction to card magic.
Review: This review is for all those who have an interest in card magic yet cannot navigate the confusing array of titles that are available. This book is indispensable! If you, like me, are a novice card magician then this is the place to start. If you buy this book and read it carefully then I promise you by the time you have read even the first few chapters you will be able to amaze anyone with a pack of cards. Not only is there a wealth of information here, the book is also extremely well written; I couldn't put it down! The book contains every basic false shuffle, cut, slight, and flourish that you will need to make significant progress in card magic. Within months I had developed a convincing card routine and was delighting people with my 'magical' abilities. If you choose this book then you will be on the way to doing the same.

Summary: A Great Foundation for Card Magic
Review: This was one of the first magic books given to me. This (along with Expert Card Technique, the four Dai Vernon booklets, Greater Magic and the Vernon Revelations book) was the basis for my study of Card Magic. Unfortunately, card magic is not a skill that can be learned by reading alone and these books only show you the basic structure. Find someone who understands card technique and take some lessons. Then find a rehersal audience (bar magic is good for this) until the timing, patter, control etc. are complete. This book is a great companion for learning.

Summary: EXCELLENT BOOK FOR EVERY MAGICIAN
Review: Whatever you are, an advanced magician or just a beginner, this book was written for you, even if you know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about card magic. This is a rare kind of book, I mean, no matter how skilfull you are you'll be interested to read every word. For the beginner, you'll learn the correct way to execute sleights which will make you able to do tricks you never thought you'd be able to do. For the advanced magician, this book is a classic, reading it will enable you to correct possible mistakes you do when executing a sleight, improving your presentation. Simply excellent.
